Chess is a great way to socialise and women on chess.com can be just as forward as the men.

Squidy16

1. most of those profiles are not even real

2. what are you doing looking at those female profiles then?

3. "Hi baby!" is not sexual harassment; maybe someone was abused as a child and is crying about everthing

Don't be ridiculous, there are no women on the internet, only lonely men seeking company.

I'm going to amend what I have said previously.

If you're a girl/woman and you want to play chess, you will need to be thick-skinned.  Because you are likely to be surrounded by men all by yourself most of the time.  I hope your passion for the game will keep you tough.  Good luck to you.  I support your chess playing.

Ummmm I think if a woman feels harrassed, then she should complain to the admins and if enough complaints are made against a particular guy, then maybe something should be done officially.

I think there would be a lot more women chess players in life and online if there were less sexual overtures made toward them by men.  Men like (?) to get sexually harrassed (??) so men think women must enjoy that too, and that just is not the case.  Women feel nauseated by constant sexual advances and male chess players treating them like free escort service when they sit down to play chess with them.

Women chess players feel that even the niceties are all fake because as soon as they reject the advances, then they are assaulted with all sorts of insults, swearing and atrocious hostile behavior.  It makes the whole experience of playing chess extremely unpleasant for them.  It is absolutely no wonder that women don't wanna play chess at all because it is like the stone age at chess hubs when it comes to sexual harrassment.

There are many threads on this site talking about how inferior women are at chess.  Yes.  Maybe they are inferior at the highest level.  But given the supportive environment, I think any women can become very decent chess players and easily achieve at least 1600.  That's not too bad is it?

I empathize with jareddar and I support her comment.  I understand why she is so incensed.  And I expect that a lot of men will think that she is complaining about nothing, because they think sexual harrassment is something to be enjoyed.  (which is so clueless and is actually sickening in this day and age)  I also wanna comment that there are male players that treat female players with dignity, and I commend them and don't mean to rag on them.

I agree with what you are saying and some of what jareddar says inc. comments such as quoted "Hi baby"of which is patronising!

But comments such as "There are ungodly amounts of porn to ogle"is also patronising. As you yourself said Amin.(proper channels)

Notes can be deleted if the women find them offensive. They are able to block anyone and report any disgusting behavior. Most of the female avatars are fake anyway.

Report anyone who posts or sends abusive comments to you, and block those whose words are unwelcome but not quite violations of the TOS.  You can also cut down on the nonsense by posting a neutral avatar, not identifying yourself as female or by age, and avoiding profile statements like "I enjoy getting drunk and running naked on the beach with nerdy chess friends," etc.

If you do those, you should be able to control the traffic.

If you don't, preferring to merely complain about it, you are wasting everyone's time including your own.

How did you put porn into it? By "ungodly amount" you mean like "hell loads"? And how do you know anyway?

The internet gives great insight on mankind. Why make macho comments on here? It is impossible to get real contact with a person, so it can only be an outlet of some frustration, a strange way to satisfy ego or complete stupidity. On the other hand women can be strange too. Incarcerated convicts getting love letters etc.. Who can understand that?
