If a piece has no safe retreats, look for a way to attack it. (I have lost the advanced knight in the Stonewall Dutch SO MANY TIMES through forgetting about this problem!)
If a piece is not protected, look for a way to attack it while threatening something else.
It is very often worthwhile to sack a piece for two of the pawns in front of the enemy king, as long as you have a queen and at least one other unit in the area--a knight, bishop or rook, sometimes even an advanced pawn--and your opponent lacks a defending piece in the area. If you don't have the second unit you're unlikely to get more than perpetual, unless the queen can pick up a loose piece with forks.

If you are in a boring position, try to make it even MORE boring, and focus on space and prophylaxis, your opponent (assuming he isn't karpov, petrosian's ghost, giri or karjakin) will not be able to handle this psychologically and will likely attempt drastic measures and do something unsound.

I like these 😊
Always look out for:
1) checks
2) mate threats(1-3 move)
3) sac on castle
4) loose or hanging pieces
5) unprotected pawns or backward pawns
Scholar's Mate defence tip:
When you're black, do this:
If you're white, expect this.
Umm.... why are you scared of the Scholar's? I'd say if that's the reason you play e6, you are quite the beginner. Play the opening that's best for you.
Ummm... only beginners play the French?
There is nothing wrong with e5,or c5 for that matter.Maybe play the nimzowitsch defense with Nc6 or alekhine defense with Nf6 if you really feel like it,but stick with pawn defenses against stronger players as the nimzowitsch and alekhine are more exploitable.

Yup.These are definitely important tactics.I am looking for tips on strategy however because that's my weak spot.
