It takes ten moves to castle in shogi.

Harder is not better.

Elegant rules is what make something good.

Western chess and Chinese chess has elegant rules.

I don't know bout Shogi. But I don't think its rules are elegant.

I looked at the rules.

It is not elegant like Western chess and Chinese chess.

Bad ideas in Shogi.

1. Lack of pairs of Bishop and Rook. Those relic genes from Western chess.

2. 20 pieces. Too many. Western chess and Chinese chess retain the 16 pieces genes.

3. Wacky promotion into combo genes.

4. Dropping a piece like Go.

5. It retains an Elephant gene from a variant Chaturanga, Silver General. The 5 point Elephant/Vizier. That gene is not in Chinese chess nor Western chess, for a good reason. It is not elegant.

6. It messed up the gene of the Knight.

It's some Frankenstein game.

It doesn't have the elegance and simplicity of Western chess and Chinese chess.
