I would have also smoked, but my body is too weak to handle it.

i understand perfectly well what is important to focus on in this conversation... imagine how much better a player of tal's caliber would have performed had he NOT inundated his body with poisonous chemicals & cut his life short with the same. 🙂

The issue is not if smoking is harmful but if it causes dumb play.
Smoking actually increases chess performance. Tal , Alekhine and other greats of the past are proof.
