Snobs

Ok, this is one thing that I've always detested: people who are snobs about chess. Forcing you to say jahdoobie when you adjust pieces, getting uptight about using two hands to castle, and the ever popular "its not fianchetto, it's fyan-ketto" with that snobbish accent...all things that are annoying.

4.1

Each move must be played with one hand only.

Someone is right to get uptight about an opponent using both hands to castle. It is an illegal move. In a rated game you will be penalised for it. If they insist you use both hands in a 'friendly' game then it could be said to be petty.

It's not necessary to say "j'adoube."  "I adjust" is acceptable.  You should castle using one hand.  I don't understand why that's difficult for anyone.  I don't think there's anything snobbish about pointing out those things.  What I find snobbish is players who dismiss the opinions of others who have lower ratings.  Some "pull rank" when discussing not just chess theory but general opinions about the game, such as which grandmasters are among the best.  "What do you know?  Your rating is only 1500."
