I used to have an account on FICS. How is it that they know which account when I haven't ever said to anyone which account that I had. My understanding is that someone checked either the IP address of the account or the email of both accounts. So someone must have disclosed either detail to outsiders.

lol who has time and skill to do that all like what does exposing some random person's name give them like I can give you my real name because I know no one is gonna  bother blackmailing me with only a name plus I am not a son of a millionare or something that they will gain something from blackmailing me

They don't need to blackmail you. They can use your information to create a false identity for themselves, possibly ruining your credit and social standing  and costing you much money and time to fix the problem.

Actually I can tell you the Chess.com users who make certain comments but I won't as it is not their fault for someone leaking information. They wanted to know who was playing bughouse and someone with connection with Chess.com revealed the information. Now, the issue I have is that I closed old account and opened this account and yet they immediately make the connection between my new account with the FICS account. There is only one way which is that some of the players have contacts at Chess.com who reveal certain information so they can ascertain who this account belongs to.

Every Big company does it they just lie to you about it and there is no way to prove it its disappointing, they all use this thing called "cookies" and based on your recent searches, they target advertisements. I think Chess.com does the ads thing because thats the only way the they can keep the servers up have lots of employess, but hopefully they arent selling your personal info, also other screnrio someone could have chacked your account got to settings and found out.

besides, be honest your name isn't really much personal info people in your school or college probably know it.

No one on site would do that. Again, if you use the same email address on this account that you used on an account for another site, and someone knew that account as set on the other site, the email lookup option would allow them to figure it out.
