Just got an email from Square Off to download TestFlight for my app so I guess IOS is available. I will try it when I get home but anyone who’s tried it yet can they give an opinion?

I haven't seen this news yet. I will check it out tonight though !

I have an iPhone and I opened the SQ app and had to press my name in the menu. Just below where my name is there’s a tiny chess.com sign. I pressed that and signed into chess.com. As you said the other day you’ll need beta. That’s as far as I got because I’ve got to get on.

Now that SquareOff has integrated with chess.com it is by far the fastest and easiest way to find somebody to play against. This is, in my opinion, the best update so far by SquareOff! Finding anybody to play on their available players list was near impossible but now with chess.com you find people almost instantly. SquareOff chess gets better with each passing month. They are constantly looking for ways to improve and this update is a homerun.

The next step is to also integrate the DGT e-board with chess.com, so that you can play on a real board. I know that SquareOff also uses a real wooden chess board, but unfortunately not of the same quality as DGT.

How does it work? I’m not home to try. Do I have to have my laptop on? If I go from SQ to Chess.com on my phone I get a message saying I’m logged in elsewhere.

In the available players area on SquareOff, there is an X on the lower right hand side. By clicking the X takes you to chess.com automatically. From there you can pick a time control and chess.com will randomly pair you up. It works great and your wait time for somebody to play is only a few seconds.

The square off board is of the highest quality, in my opinion.. I love my rosewood pieces and set. DGT Boards are overpriced and underdeveloped. Square off is the way to go.

We are talking about two different products. The SquareOff chess set is very nice, I agree. But for the more serious chess I would recommend DGT.

One thing that you can not easily see from the pictures are sizes:

King Size SquareOff = 2.5 inch
King Size DGT = 3.7 inch
Board square size SquareOff = 1.5 inch
Board square size DGT = 2.25 inch

From this perspective (wood and size) DGT is much more expensive but also much better.
I also am convinced that electroncally the DGT e-board is superior.

A word about quality: The pieces in the Square Off system have to be small and light, as they move „alone“ over the board. A computer able to move conventional pieces would be to big and expensive, so Square Off is indeed a nice, intelligent product, not better or worse than DGT, just different.

And yes, we are big children playing with a toy, but we have fun! In my chess class there are people popping up who never played chess befor just to play against the computer. They would not come to play with a DGT board.

But I agree with you: to play online and analyse is the DGT board much better than Square Off, alone because the heavier pieces.

To me a minor difference in piece & square size is irrelevant as long as i can play a game of chess on it. I look at functionality & cost efficiency though.. but to each their own happy.png

Spent the afternoon in between chores playing SQ and using the app to find games on Chess.com. Very exciting and no hiccups with the app.

I noted several times already that playing outside with SQ can be tricky if there some wind.  The pieces will fly around. But light pieces are important for the SO-system.

I have been having a small issue while using SquareOff through chess.com. My battery level on my phone or tablet drops extremely fast. It has never dropped as fast while playing only with SquareOff or only on chess.com, but playing with both in combination, I loose 20% to 25% easily. I have even lost a game when my battery completely ran out & I started with over 35% battery in that game. I don’t understand why the drop in power is so much more
