Square Off - Chess Set

Currently via Square Off we can receive custom challenges from specific chess.com users and issue random challenges within parameters we set, but does anyone know if there is a way (or a work around) so as to be able to join and play in tournaments on chess.com via Square Off? (or even join via chess.com and then play via Square Off).

I just seen one sell used at a auction sold for 250. It looked brand new. It was a throw of the dice purchase.

Updated the Android version of the app. Lot more going on. But feel the graphics for the chess board/pieces are very basic. A backward step. Perhaps because they adding features memory requirements were to high.

The IOS app has updated as well. Happy for the game analysis, but find the 'Earn Diamonds/Pay for Coins' additions really cheesy and patronising. It feels inappropriate and it works against the 'pro' branding they've worked so hard to build, IMO. 

Personally I don't like the Square Off. The robot inside the board make a lot of noise and moves are so slow and unatural.

I would prefer a DGT centaur. A much better engine and quality.

The new ones that we're all waiting for are 2 to 3X faster and quieter as well.  Oh and less expensive...

It’s Stockfish 10 - rated up to 3300.  There are no issues with Square Offs engine IMO.

I didn't know about the new ones ! Sounds good. Can you play correspondence chess with it ? Like the board is set up and when your opponent moves, it moves. Would be great !

No, you can't currently do that. It's all live games. 

Im wondering if there are additional time controls available to use on chess.com for the squareoff board.

Also, my experience has been up and down.  The first Grand Kingdom set I had malfunctioned and I had to have it exchanged.  It took a couple of weeks.  The replacement is currently working fine with some minor hiccups.

I’n very disappointed by some of the bugs and features. Playing against opponents on square off itself is weird - why do I have to pick colors when I set up the game and can’t get a random color?

the time controls on chess.com are not good, 15 mins + 10 sec is a bit too fast, as the board takes more than the increment to actually make the move, so the lowest playable time limit is 30 mins. But the biggest issue for me is that most of the games somehow disconnect and I don’t even get an error. It shows me that it’s my opponents turn and he is thinking, but in reality he made a move a long time back and my time is running down. So if I realize the game is stuck I need to switch and logon to chess.com from another device to find I’m low on time and boring my opponent to death. Does anyone else have this problem? The support didn’t really help here.

but the biggest disappointment for me is the streaming of the games, I bought the board early when it was one of the promised features and it was not clear at all that this would only be available for the grand kingdom set. I don’t see why this is different between the boards besides trying to sell the more expensive version.

15 10 games are playable, it's all I ever use it for. Yes, you do get lower on time but it isn't too bad.

As for streaming games I thought they had changed things to allow the smaller board to stream games. Maybe you need an app or firmware update? 

I've never had the game get stuck in the way you describe. The only times I had a problem was when I had a window open on chess.com on another device without realising 

Is it possible to stream live games on the kingdom? My board and app show on the latest release. I can replay my own games on the board where it just makes move after move to the end position. But watching live games still shows not possible. When I stream the game, the board even makes a beep sound but doesn't start moving pieces. and the board still says not supported on the screen.

I was wondering if this issue is somehow related to the iPad or phone having the app in the background, but I seem to get this problem regularly. I thought maybe it looses bluetooth connection or something else, but since the games on square off never have this issue it must be chess.com related somehow.

I thought they had changed it during the world championship a couple of years ago. Maybe not. Contact support within the app, they are very good usually although can take some time to reply

Hi everyone! Are there different model years for the Kingdom/Grand Kingdom sets? Or will I be getting the same thing regardless of whether I order from the Square Off website vs. a third party retailer? Thanks!

I understand they reworked the innards in a later revision to make them a little quieter
