Next time, it might add to the production values if erik dresses in a suit (maybe with a chess.com logo or pin on the lapel), or a cape and crown, perhaps, sitting at a desk, and there was a faux fireplace instead of a blank wall...as well as a banner across the top saying, "Our Fearless Leader".

Holding sheets of paper and rustling them, while pretending to read them can add to the gravitas of this type of event, for added effect.

Also, it should be mandatory that all members view the these kind of announcements live; it would be a simple matter to pre-empt all gameplay and forum activity to prioritize these speeches.

"  and there was a faux fireplace instead of a blank wall"  HahahahahahaLaughing You want a Norman Rockwell background?                Undecided I suggest a green screen background to make it look like he's walking on a life size chess board. And all the pieces will "morph" into those 32 of 50 people he mentioned as part of the team. Take a bow!Yell

The problem with V3 is not that it's not good.
It's that they've been sitting on the same beta version for more than 2 years and they still make promises to members about it.
None of the reported bugs been fixed.
Not even the freaking typos of the translations been fixed.
It's the same exact thing that it was when first announced.

I've reported buggy things in the past. Some of them are no longer buggy. They have also been adding things. For a while, I would only switch to v3 when I wanted to answer a question about it. Now I only switch to v2 when I encounter a bug or want to answer a specific question about that interface I don't know the answer to.

Not saying v3 is perfect but I can do most things in it.

A montage of "The History of Chess.com" would be nice as a lead-in.

Re-enactments of the "Founding Fathers" sitting in thier parents' basement having that eureka moment...the rags-to-riches story...the furious typing of code set to inspiring rock anthems.

That kind of thing.

Not so much Norman Rockwell, was thinking more like a Presidential Fireside Chat.

But since you mentioned it, maybe a cardigan and ascot type look might be the way to go?Undecided

This is Candy Cane with a re-cap of today's surprise public visit from Erik. Yeahhhhh!Yell  ahumm....sorryEmbarassed      UndecidedI'll try to re-cap from memory. Erik stated that 50 people comprise Chess.com. He spoke about the apps in V3 for mobile devices. He answered Batgirl's question about up-loading pictures in V3. Danny Rench was asked to make more videos. More code has to be written to play chess from pre-arranged positions. He answered a question from baddogno about correspondence chess. I asked if he would do this more often, maybe once a month. Erik was just a tad bit camera shy, and his hair wasn't co-opperating. Some questions that were typed into the chat box, were also answered by Staff as Erik was speaking. It was all a little new to me so I just stayed back and watched. But RJC was ready to save the day in case Erik had a major catastrophy. He was ready to jump in and play a drum solo. Fortunately, his services were not needed. A couple of questions were taken from the 2 threads about V3,--How Longgggggg. Erik also apologized for being about 6 months behind schedule in implementing V3. A new person asked about the levels of Premium membership. (some people want ads, some don't. some people want just tactics trainor, some don't).  Oh, Erik explained that there is 1 full time and 2 part time people who do nothing but work the cheat detection system 24/7. Some staff names were new to me. That's all for now. Stay tuned for furthur up-dates. Good Night, and have a pleasant CheckmateKiss

After a pawn has crossed the board and is in one position from being promoted, is it aloud to move diagonally without taking an apponents piece into the promotion position?

No.  Pawns can move diagonally only when they capture.

On the one hand, the State of Chess.com is a vile swampland of dishonorable cheats encouraged by a hand-ringing, nail-biting, non est mea culpa CEO allowing it to thrive; on the other hand, best site on web.

Well Ok Ok,  Its obvious that Mr Erik is not very comfortable in front of the camera. It should be monthly appearance, to appease the shareholders, with Erik taking on a different "persona" each episode; say, "Ming the Merciless" one month, and a sort of "Mr. Rogers" archetype the next...the possibilities are endless!

RonaldJosephCote

UndecidedUndecided I like it!Surprised  We could make that work!Smile

On a "serious" note. Someone started a thread about site-wide issues. Erik should be kept up to speed on those;        http://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/issues-and-problems-on-chesscom      Mods should run it like the SPAM thread.         IMOEmbarassed

This is Candy Cane from Chess.com with an progress report on the alliance between Elenin Studios and Erik. Yesterday's meeting was a great success depending on who you ask. In an effort to portray Erik as just a fun loving warm and fuzzy guy, the writers decided to pair Erik & Shaun together in front of the camera. The idea was to bill them as an Abbott & Costello doing the routine of "Who's on 1st, V2 or V3"? In front of a hand picked studio audience it all started out just fine. But then half way through the routine, Erik became incresingly irritated, uncomfortable, and downright angry. We will go back to the drawing boards and try again because its obvious that Erik is working WAY too hard on V3. The screen test ground to a halt when Erik started swearing and screaming at everyone;                                                                                                                                   "YOU FORGOT THE BRIEFCASE"Yell                                                                                                                           Later, Regis Filbin tweeted, "I can't work with that guy. He's completely out of control".                                                                                                                                                                                  That's all for now. I sometimes don't come on here for hours, days, weeks... because of the unpleasant side of chess.com. I know that men get abuse and intimidation aimed at them also... but there's something so misogynistically nasty about some of the remarks that are clearly aimed to hurt and demean females in particular; that make me want to throw in my membership and ask what the hell am I putting up with this for?

But I've fought far worse than pathetic words on a screen to let them bother me to that degree... what I find far worse than those insidious plebs who tap out their brave mud-slinging... is that chess.com don't make it a priority to help stamp it out. Why they don't come out and say 'we're listening to our members' when we ask for the tools to prevent the bullying, harassment or intimidation?

Most of those tools exist.  You can block troublesome users as a primary defense. If you feel it necessary, you can report them directly to staff. You  can turn off notes and messages, only accepting them from friends.

The sad thing is, behavior like that can't be proactively prevented. It can be policed and the site can show a strong response when it happens.  Unfortunately, a mixture of anonymity and free access allows that a little more easily but even personally  attributable accounts and/or premium/psid accounts can have similar actions.
