yes similar but for the more pious, the bishop fork.
I have studied Hans' behaviour for a while. I'm convienced he's just a very dedicated and motivated to improve player. In his podcast on perpetual chess he claimed he gave up everything to be able to play chess, train 12 hours a day and travel around the world. Imagine you sacrifice everything for chess and the chess world meets you this unimaginable hate.
His interview was perfectly correct. He misevaluated a couple of positions, but his ideas were interesting. He seemed awkward just like any other chess player.
Stop the witch hunt
Just to play devil's advocate:
Imagine you spend 12 hours/day for 3 years trying to improve at something, and it isn't happening. Are you likely to give up and realize you have reached your peak or are you likely to double-down and find a way to force "improvement"?
Before you say the latter is ridiculous, consider how many Olympic and professional athletes do just that.
I think even if he cheated he'd stop by now
I think even if he cheated he'd stop by now
So your premise that is that *if* he is cheating for at least the 3rd time, he will summarily stop after beating Magnus but before becoming world champion?
Makes sense, get caught and let go 3 times, then just stop...you know, due to personal character and integrity...
Better hope you never have an addict in your family, because they are going to run roughshod right over you.

There's only 1 confirmed case of him cheating. But let's suppose he is really cheating and will from time to time. I still wouldn't like him to get caught. That would be bad for the chess image

He said himself that he did cheat on chess.com at 12 and at 16...

PROOF HE'S NOT CHEATING NOW!!!:
12 ... 16 ... 20
He's only 19 so he's not cheating yet
looks to me as tho it got him to the top, now dintit ? he got to play higher-rated ppl (play up to improve ?). couple that w/ ?...hes probly practicing 25/8, hezza gigatalent shard, & one who owns the memory of a boneyard elephant.
My opinion, Magnus just lost some respect in the chess world! He should have given a reason for leaving the tournament, very simple and would avoided all this speculation! He cowardly puts a tweet out and knew social media would eat it up, Cause MC made a statement! Well from now on any statement from this ex world champ does not mean anything to me anymore! Go Hans!

Those were the only times he was caught. It's like a criminal who tells the judge "I never did anything like that before. I'm so sorry." Of course, 99% of the time they're lying. After all, they're thieves and cheats.
He should've be banned from elite tournaments for life.
I was thinking something similar Of course there is always the possibility nothing untoward happened during this match. BUT, you are right, it's EXTREMELY rare for a criminal to fess up after the first, second, or even hundredth successful attempt. They only fess up after they've been caught, no matter how many times it's been.
What I find interesting is that even after getting caught, some people do it again. To me that immediately indicates a deeper problem.
The thing is there is absolutely no proof that he cheated in this OTB tournament. There is as much proof about him cheating as there is about Magnus or Nepo cheating.
Everybody is accusing him of cheating just because Magnus wrote a Tweet, which frankly, shows how stupid the chess community is. If Magnus hinted it's good for your health to jump off a roof headfirst into concrete, Im sure many pawn pushers (especially many high rated ones) will go and try it.

Well, he cheated in the past, so the suspicions...
I agree that he cheated and chess.com should have never let him come back to the site, just like they should not give second chances to other cheaters as they regularly do. Chess.com is an atrocious site when it comes to cheating. They claim to invest millions in cheat detection but allow cheaters to come back if they promise to not cheat again (lols).
But anyway, he's not cheated at OTB, and FIDE has not punished him from his cheating at chess.com years ago, so it's a bit weird everyone's jumping at him about it several years later and only because he defeated Magnus ... in an OTB event where he was scrutinised before sitting at the board and the environment was under full control of the chess club.
So the only reason they are pointing fingers at him is because Magnus wrote a stupid tweet. Why weren't people saying anything about Hans chess.com's cheat ban on his first match in this tournament? What about all the other tournaments he played all these years since the ban?
People even were laughing at his interviews a few weeks ago. No one saying anything about his cheating ban. Suddenly the manchild throws a hissy fit and everyone is suddenly is accusing him of cheating.
It never ceases to amaze me how easy narratives are fed into crowds. All it takes is one person in popular standing to mention anything ARBITRARY, and suddenly it becomes THE EXISTENTIAL PROBLEM for the crowd - even though the topic had never been a problem in the past, had never affected their lives and most times they had never given it a single thought in their entire lives.
Magnus is certainly not a manchild, and has NEVER done something similar. He has lost in the past against lower rated players and has never brought up any drama about it. So ask yourself these questions.

Your premise is faulty. Niemann's meteoric rise and past history were already noticed and a topic of discussion long before this tournament (as is made clear by several top players in the past few days). It could be paranoia, or it could be accurate assessment of what is occurring. We don't know for certain yet. The question is, why do people assume it's all brand new simply because *they* just heard about it?
The universe keeps running while you are asleep, for the record.
