I heard once that causing your opponent to move their king and therefore be unable to castle is worth a minor piece. Is this considered to be true?

rooperi

No.

basserben

I would say yes - but only if you can follow up on the attack to make his king incredibly weak.

chessbond001

basically, you are trying to say that the loss of castling right is worth a minor piece. IMHO

what you said would be :

1)True

if the center is open and you have developed all your pieces then there might be tactic or combination which might win you a minor piece even checkmate the king!!

2)False

if the center is closed, this causes the attack on king very difficult, you have to manevour your pieces and improve your control over important square move-by-move to able to win the game.

in one line : it all depends upon the position.

i hope this answers your question.Smile

SeizetheKnight

Thanks! Not as simple as it seemed.

FancyKnight

Usually no. Only in specific instances when either the opponent's peices become really tied up or there is an immediate tactic.
