Strength of street hustlers in America?

i was wondering, based on my 15 provisional games here today (One I did lose to a 2000 doing misclick since the ads here were lagging my screen), if I would be comfortable facing some of the best street chess hustlers in NYC or Boston or do I not stand a chance? Ive been playing for two years almost and became the strongest player in Slab City, Cali and now Im on the east coast and thinking of checking out the street scene. Also, are there any master level players in USA that would be willing to take me up under their wing? Im a travelling musician so Im free as a bird.

I played some in Boston. The best hustles I saw are titled-level, as in they're actual FM or IM. In blitz at their table with their clock some of them might be GM strength. They aren't out there every night, and they don't make a living on the street from it, so I don't know if you could call them hustlers, but there are some very good players if you know the right places and times.

Mid level hustlers are more like 1800-2200... meaning some are worse.

So could you win a non-zero number of games in a park against hustlers? Yeah, probably. But if you value your money probably better not to try grin.png

Oh, you're a very new account. It's hard to know how good you are.

How many more online matches would it take me for my rating to settle out? I can hardly stand it, focusing on a screen so hard

Who knows. Everyone has good and bad days, so if you only play 1 day it's hard to know even if you play 100 games tongue.png

Having said that, your rating is probably already pretty accurate, you know, within 100 points probably, and within 200 points almost certainly.

I don’t know about US, but in Germany when I faced one of them a few years back, I lost miserably and then I understood he was an IM (I was also weaker than now back then, but still among normal club players I was very good).
