From what I hear, Israel decided to reject the name "swine flu" in favor of "Mexico flu!"  Thanks a lot, Israel... I just hope other countries don't follow your lead.  *thinks about the importance of perceived health, safety, and security threat in prejudiced attitudes and actions, especially towards Mexicans in the US, and worries about having to walk out of his apartment each day*

Ha ha ha ha ha - when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denounced Israel as a racist country at the UN recently, the EU delegation stood up and walked out in protest. And Ahmadinejad was condemned for the speech. Ha ha ha ha ha. Looks like Israel can manage their image very well without Ahmadinejad's help !Laughing

There's a long precedent of naming flu strains after their country of origin -- it's no more racist than referring to Mexican food (unless, perhaps, you're using it interchangeably with "swine food").

Incidentally, I notice that no-one's spoken up in defense of the poor pigs who are stuck with the stigma of having it called "swine flu" in every other country....

Well let me tell you what we have in Mexico.

There have been a total of 156 deads out 120 million.

There have been a total of 1700 cases, 1200 are at home now and healthy.

The other cases are being treated and most of them will be out of the hospital soon.

Now, from good source I know some of the cases have been other disease such as regular flu, neumonia or chicken pox. (Becuase they have the same symptoms)

Most of the cases that were Influenza and treated within the first symptoms they are out of danger and recovering. The problem was with the advanced ones.

Kernicterus

Freedom fries made me a little concerned about who runs the American government...and that maybe Bush isn't the only one with a below 90 IQ.

Swine flu what a load of scare-mongering - it's nowhere near as bad as bird flu.  And why do females get all the press thst's still nothing compared to man flu which is a real killer.

RedSoxpawn

The sypmtoms sound a lot like allergies, well 8 cases positive in Alabama now. Woohooo

The Israeli health officers that suggested changing the name are kind of idiotic... not to mention poor marketers. Hasn't Judaism (and Islam) condemned pigs as filthy and sinful?

Heck, this seems like the perfect chance to capitalize on that

I was wondering what/why/how swine flu would be in the middle east anyway. Somebody is going to be in trouble when the government finds out the real answer.

This is definetley a chess realted topic...

Scientists are now saying that as this flu is going around, it's getting stronger. In fact, the more people it infects, scientist predict that when they spread it, it will be stronger than it was when it had just entered the first person's body.

TheGrobe

Where did you get that info?  It doesn't sound at all right, neither from the perspective of actually being able to measure the strength, nor from the anecdotal evidence that appears to have the first few cases being much more severe than the subsequent ones.

My University closed because of the flu (I live in Mexico city) and all schools closed here, its pretty boring, but is for our safety. I hope this will be over soon.

Ha ha ha ha ha. If something came out of Israel, and following the practice of calling it after the place it originated from - it would be called the Israeli flu, Hebrew flu or Jewish flu, I betcha your last dollar that the Jews will be kicking up a stink about anti-Semitism ! Ha ha ha

BTW, I don't think the pigs would be too worried about being stigmatised !Laughing

TheGrobe

Stigmatized, perhaps no.  Tenderized, on the other hand....

Mmmmm.

Ye man, don't you know how chess was invented?  The same thing happened 2000 years ago, and one thing led to another and here we are playing at chess.com and discussing the swine flu.
