My rating on tactics is significantly lower than regular play - is this normal for beginners? Is there a way to progress faster or should I just keep doing tactics puzzles to improve? Thanks!

I think you're doing fine.  Your tactics score is between your live and "daily" ratings.  That said, one of the best ways to get better at tactics is to actually go study them.  The TT tests you on your knowledge, but the ChessMentor will let you study each tactical motif and maybe burn in some patterns.  GM Patrick Wolff has over a dozen courses on all the usual suspects: pins, forks, discovered attacks, etc.  They're not the easiest courses in the world but if you were to try some of them it would be bound to help your tactics score.  My $.02.

Keep trying you're doing the right thing, by working on your tactics and the lessons help too. I'm an intermediate and chess.com has helped a lot.
