If it makes you feel better, I knew a family that had a similar situation when I was a kid. The favored sibling has now filed for bankruptcy twice.

Having to work harder to earn things is good for you.

I hate turnips.

(1) Live chess incompatibility with XP+IE. I shouldn't have to go the trouble of change O/S or browser to enjoy the site.

(2) There's no way to completely and utterly tune out the existence of "Chess Player of the Month". I want a check box to make putrifactive threads disappear from view and never show up in any forum list of any kind that I call up. Just seeing the title CPOTM in the active forum list upsets my delicate stomach. I've dug up septic tanks and suffered less discomfort.

(3) I understand there are legitimate uses of popups, but some here are immovable and obstruct access to features. I have no way to know if this is "fixed" by becoming a member, and since the worst ones aren't ads I must assume not.

(4) The video previews offered to non-members end before the "master" has given any evidence of competence on the topic. Either make the previews longer, or (this second one being my preference) have the "master" get on topic right away and persuade us he/she has something to offer.

The pop ups do indeed disappear when you become a premium member.

Trying to justify injustice by pseudophilosophical nonsense can only slow down progress. If this boy is truly discriminated by his parents he should have the courage to confront them. That is how I feel. If his brother has three coaches and he isn't allowed even a premium membership something does not seem right.

Sorry if this sounds aggressive corrijean but some things really push my triggers, as you probably already understand.

I know from experience that in some cases confronting them just makes them act like bigger holes.

I know that unfortunately can be true but it is despicable for parents to favour one sibling. It can maintain resenment between brothers or sisters even after the parents have passed away.

True, and it can also make one glad when they have passed away.

Gosh I was not going to contribute to this post because ( I am a bad @ss diamond ).

"BUT", lolo Tloan said, "The auto renew thing scares me"!    How rightly so he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   When they renewed me for my second year they did not show me the respect to at least "tell me so in a e-mail". So, when I went to make an on line purchased, I was told my account was maxed OUT!  So I was scared Sh..less, thought some one got my numbers and its party time on my expense.  What made it worst when I checked out the purchases, the suspicious $100.00  charge did not mention chess.com.  I eventually found out it was a ok charge, but when I tryed to contact chess.com about this and sent off a message they still have not responded, that was back in Nov 9 2011.   May check out ICC???  Love Ghost lolo

Yes, the story about 3 coaches and a 2700 rating does seem a bit unlikely.

I have a friend that is trying to raise his kids to realize life isn't fair. He divides goodies/apportions tasks in a deliberately unbalanced way. He doesn't do it to one kid and not the other, though. That part is equal.

His idea is to make them grow up without a sense of entitlement, and to value hard work.

Well, there is no article in the UN Charter of Human Rights that stipulates that every human being is entitled to having 3 chess coaches, as far as I know. It may be that his brother is a strong / talented player who is thought to be deserving of such privileges. Then again, the whole story is probably way off.

I am sorry, but the story isn`t way off, and you are right about my brother, he really is talented player, and I think he deserves such privileges, but i also think I deserve a little bit, only 10% like he has and i would be happy. When he drew one 2650 GM all started with him, thats when i was left aside.

Life isn't fair, but I wish that it would be unfair in my favor Wink

Sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation I can almost gauarantee you that given enough time being 14 will seem better.

I doubt it.  Nothing sucks as bad as junior high sucked.

On the plus side:  if you can make it through that, you can make it through anything. Smile

As soon as I start to LIKE playing chess again I might become a premium member.

So I just lurk around read post some stuff, make comments here and there, block some jerks and read many blogs.

I thought of just sending a donation to Erik but I bought 12 chess complete chess set instead. I am teaching 23 kids to play chess at a school. It is free and I don't get paid.

Maybe I will leave something in my will to chess.com and have them start a scholarship program, "The Denver Scholarship" for young kids up to 14 years old that can't pay.

Hmmm . . .

corrijean

Do they only have to do their homework if they want to do it of their own free will?

corpsporc

The reason why I'm not a premium member is that this site sucks.
