The Amount of Effort You Put Into Chess.

Say you play, study, and practice Chess everyday. How much growth as a Chess player could one achieve in one month of playing, studying, and practicing? Practicing as in, playing with yourself. :3 Just wanted to clear that up.

Say you're somewhere between the skill level of a 1000 - 1200. How fast could you grow if you did all 3 of those things everyday for about 3 hours?

Depends on what kind of studying you do, whether you're studying under a coach, natural ability, etc. With all of these variables taken into account, probably anywhere from 25-200 points.

Yeah, really depends on what's going on in your head during practice.  E.g. do your eyes glaze over while you put in a mandatory 1 hour of tactics?  Or do you get excited about the patterns, review them in your mind later, try to understand why you didn't see it, brainstorm about how you can think about it differently.  And maybe the puzzles are too hard or too easy.  Similarly with your opponents.  Stuff like that.

So yeah, anywhere from zero to >100 points.
