The Cause.

Greetings to all.

Do you think, that World war 2 would have started, if the winning sides of World War 1 didn't give Germany such terrible conditions, as they gave Germany in 1918?

My grandfather, who lived in the NL reportedly said to my Grandmother, that due to the Poms and French not following, "Wilson's ten point plan", that another War was inevitable. Strip someone's dignity and there will be consequences. (Hope the ten point plan WAS,, "Wilson's. Toolazy to check).

a piece of s* will always find a cause

There have been countless causes that have run out of steam. The ones that work, Russian and American Revolutions succeeded to fertile ground. I'm not defending Hitler; I'm saying that what France and England left Germany with, well, compare that to what the Yanks did with Japan.

I am not defending Hitler either, I am just saying that the winning sides in world war one, made his job of convincing the German folk, a lot easier.

Potentially

But hey- perhaps he could have found a way of rising anyway. And if he did, the Germans would have had better weapons, the luftwatha (butchered spelling. German Air Force) would have been more advanced then they were now, Germany would have had more resources for war, more tanks, more military knowledge, more ships, Etc, etc.

reparations , forced on germany following 1918 , crippled the country and caused so much hardship , the period in the early twenties that was called roaring for most of the western world was a period of hyper inflation , hunger and unemployment for germans

around this time socialists  and fascists both found themselves being heard more as people sought change , stalinist influenced german communists wouldnt give voice for revolution , they became less of an option , the fascists then filled that void even having the audacity to call themselves national socialists to hoodwink even more

would a fairer peace sttlement have caused this period to be less turbulent ????????????? i reckon so

Potentially- but who can say? Something else may have happened if this stuff didn't.

thats true but what could have been different if say the communist party of russia under stalin had supported a revolutionary message in germany from the communists there ?

imagine that

The working people benefited little from it.

Indeed, and Hitler's rise was seen by the Germans as benefitting all Germans. In the same vein, "Kristallnacht" was engineered and that was the first of his step too far. (The means do not justify the end).

The exact point I'm trying to make.

Just repeating what I said earlier, Viscount. Many have tried ti start a movement of some sort. Had there not been fertile ground, Hitler's seeds may have had nowhere to germinate. We'll never know, of course.

No more from me. I've said enough. wink.png

Do you think the Third Reich would have risen to power, had Germany (along with the rest of the world) been in the midst of the Great Depression at the time?

Show me one effect, I will show you 1000 causes.

Indeed. History and speculation are two very great subjects.
