The chess softwares you were looking for...

Hi,

I use Hiarcs as chess engine, since it is said to be very human-like in the middlegame, and with regards to positional chess. Rybka and Fritz might be stronger, but too much computer-like. Hiarcs is the most "human" of them, so it's very likely its thinking is the closest one to a human being on the boards.

As database software I use Chessbase11, and for openings I also use Chessbase11 combined with Chess Position Trainer.

Greetings.

What I'm looking for is software where you could:

1) give it a set of tabiyas (e.g. a set of classic endgame positions, a set of classic thematic middlegame positions). Have them stored in a nice database and give the ability to play against an engine - something like a database of tabiyas (e.g. from a menu I click minory at queenside and then I select to play against an engine one my 10 stored positions where I have a minority attack). Here a suggestion for an engine that can realistically weaken it's positional play would be handy as even given a position with an edge, playing against an elo 3000++ terminator will not make allow me to do what I want, practice the tabiyas.

2) pass it an opening repertoire and have some training mode like - make you replay your repertoire

3) Ability to store my own games collection.

working on mac/Linux is a huge plus as the windows machine is in the middle of a teritorial dispute between me and Ms Pentagram. Is Scid in its current state good to use for training purposes ?
