The terrible distracting ui hss returned.

The ui when you win a game is very distracting both at the start and end of a game and doesn't need to be there at all please leave it the way it was. This is a example of fixing something that isn't broken.

The site add/changes things occasionally and not everyone will like those changes. I've seen posts that also like this particular change.

That said, you can turn that off.

Its very distracting for bullet chess in particular imo. I appreciate the effort truly, but this is only way I can give feedback as a user.

It's terrible for blitz!

I mentioned in another thread that you lose 2/3 seconds as White due to this as you cannot move until it's gone. So if you're playing 1+0 blitz, this "improvement" puts you at a playing disadvantage! How can something like this have got beyond an initial discussion?

And unfortunately the above settings change does not exist if playing in browser on mobile. It's a terrible user experience implementation.

I guess a clean interface "lacks rizz"...

If you're seeing the feature, you should have the option to turn it off, even on mobile web.

Thanks Martin but unfortunately not, the option does not appear if you are playing on Chrome browser on Android.

Fortunately, I think I just discovered a way to disable it though if anyone else is struggling:- If you click on the Chrome browser (not chess.com) settings and check on to "Desktop View" and then go into chess.com's "Board And Pieces" settings the animation disable option does appear. So you can check it off there, save, then go back into the Chrome settings and disable "Desktop View". Thankfully this workaround appears to work!

Martin - you seem to reply to most of these questions re these issues so not sure if you are a mod / have an ability to feedback to the developers but you should if you can. I guess a lot of people won't bother faffing around and will just head to lichess instead.

It's just such a bizarre implementation - Even if there was some sort of event driven development at play here, they could have made it so that the clock didn't start until the animation was finished. That would have been less frustrating.

Yesterday it was the first time I noticed this change in my games. I don't see the option you've mentioned.

Martin_Stahl

@BillWerbeniuk I know it shows on Android Chrome when in the beta. I'm asking if there is a reason that some of those not in the beta that see the animations don't have the setting.

LondonWall

It doesn't give me the option either, sort it out

Thanks Martin 👍

The workaround I mentioned above does work, so may be useful for some.

Problem for me is that I'm playing games just as a guest, so every time I refresh / close my browser I need to redo the procedure but at least it does get rid of it!

I'm pretty sure it could be layered & sized in a certain manner to not steal focus and ensure White's initial piece selection could be made whilst the animation is live...

Martin_Stahl

Oh, if you're playing as a guest, that certainly will change things.

LondonWall

how do you switch off seeing the other persons board at the start as well, another pointless and annoying feature

not_Sajjad

hmm

Not only distracting, it nearly crushed my PC after the end of a game! Every time a game ends, the utilization of my cores goes up like crazy. WTF?

Not for this particular "feature" it doesn't.

Just checked and it's exactly the same - i.e. Pre/Post animation option only available through changing the Chrome settings to "Desktop Site".

And bizarrely btw - to chime in with what other users are saying re time spent fixing broken things would have been better - I'm even having problems replying here because the embedded carousel advert takes focus when the image changes causing my typing to effectively "click" on the link and lose the page!

What I mean is Guest mode is handled slightly differently anyway. The option shows both in mobile optimized and desktop mode on Chrome when logged in and I believe guest mode uses beta code so theoretically shouldn't require any workaround

All I can tell you is that it most certainly doesn't appear whilst logged in and actually on Chrome on Android. The Board and Pieces options are exactly as those shown in nklristic's post further up the thread.

It's really poor - not sure why this even needs to be added to a user role. I'm presuming you have different role types (e.g. Guest, Logged in user, Logged in Premium user, etc) but these setting options should be shown by default and removed by role type as required. Not the other way around. Then you'd avoid this problem.

Bro is this whole discussion about a 2/3 second diff in bullet? That's 1/90 of the game, like jesus high ELO bullet gets technical.

For me the time is almost irrelevant - it's the fact that it exists at all and therefore this unnecessary development has introduced an imbalance into the actual game play. One which on certain platforms you cannot get rid off.

Seems almost unbelievable that something like this could get through the development process and into production on a site this size...

Martin_Stahl

For those that are seeing the animations and don't see the setting in the main settings page, use the Settings icon by the board in Play and see if it's there.
