The unbeatable strength of very low rated players

It’s always better to post in a topic that has already been opened than to start a new one on the same subject . That’s the correct forum etiquette

unpredictability . . . the kryptonite of high rated players.

Lower-rated players may sometimes make unpredictable or unorthodox moves that can catch you off guard, whereas higher-rated players tend to follow more standard patterns. They might play excellent moves one moment and blunder the next, making it challenging to formulate a consistent strategy.

It's due to the ridiculous abundance of cheaters in the high 875 to 975 range. I've stagnated around 1,000 for 6+ months now. At times I've jumped as high as low 1200's, cutting through 1100 players 8-10 games in a row in the process. Then naturally I cool off some, and when I've cooled off enough such that I'm playing 975 players again, that's when I start getting shredded with surgical precision. New accounts that choose beginner start at 800, so there's a ton of relatively new players with nothing to lose by cheating.

And yes, did just revive a 12 year old thread. This seems to trigger some people when they see the dates, which is all the more reason to revive it, not less. But I'm glad beginners to low intermediates have been noticing this for over a decade!

When this thread was started, all new players started with a 1200 rating, so someone had to lose a bunch of games to get their rating below 1000.

You need to focus on the endgame then. Middlegames are about forming a plan and focusing on certain weak points and setting up combinations.
