The OP's been here a month and a half....... meh  We started getting server overloads when he showed up, and his 1st thread is how come there's so many trolls?

Says someone with 800 blitz rating lol.

sums up how I feel about these forums 😂😂

The troll guy was trying to figure out why new people are playing chess and as a new player I have my reason for trying chess and he got mad and blocked me so I called the forums policy trash

Anyway there are definitely good discussions to be found here. It's not the norm but it can happen. Whatever the issue is wrt someone blocking you for disagreeing, yeah that happens from time to time, don't worry about it, random people on the internet will do whatever they want to feel "right" in an argument. It got way easier for me to exist on the internet when I gained enough perspective to stop caring that much about each interaction. But that took a long time

I think I’ve just been blessed with exceptionally good forums in the past and expected these to be on the same level… but a lot of people on here remind me of twitter or something 😅😂… I think it’s probably just the ego attached to chess is more a cause of the “negativity” and “trolling” behavior

what are you implying 😂😂…

Its not against you....yrs ago when Chess.com went from V1, to V2 we had glitches. The same thing happened from V2 to V3 and a lot of members promised to cancell.

kangusmangus

I started on this site but tbh haven’t really been playing on it as I’ve been playing over the board as it’s more casual and I feel I learn more… I’ve just been playing bots and doing puzzles and lessons occasionally on my phone… Tbh as a newb to the site and chess the overloads are expected given the trends on YouTube with it atm… but it is kinda sad lol

I'm still waiting for V8. That one's gotta be a lot healthier for us...

I'm still waiting for V8. That one's gotta be a lot healthier for us... Now this is what I expect when I come to the internet

You're on private property. The Bill of Rights only applies to the government and agencies that receive federal funding. Websites curate your information. Actually your posts are their content. As in they own it. They can edit, delete, mute, move a thread or ban you. It's like being a guest at somebody's house.

I'm on your side of the argument with Krieg. It's just that we can't win. There is no objective moderator in this debate. It's just Krieg standing on a soapbox in his front yard.

It's insightful of you to point out that Krieg is on a losing streak. It illustrates the motivation of his argument.

if anyone ever disagrees with me here...

...they must be a troll.

i think you meant to write that the perception of chess players is that they are smart.

participation in any arena where there is expertise will reveal that some are only experts in those areas. it is fruitless to equate any skill or expertise-mathematics, sport, meteorology, writing, even common knowledge, with those proficient at a board game.

with my due apology to the titled player that has posted here (quite eloquently, i might add), becoming an expert at chess takes an extraordinary amount of time. time that could be spent honing one's social skills, or, learning about anything other than chess.

for example, my area of expertise is golf. the two players alive today that are considered the greatest know little to nothing about the world we live in. they know golf and how to talk to the media.

basically, there is an assumption that, because one is great at (insert game/occupation), they must be smart. i have seen firsthand this is not true. even here.

(anyone read reb or lancer?)

No, he’s not - I’ve just read 1 page and it’s obvious he’s accusing Chess.com of breaking their own server by creating a bunch of fake bot accounts in some sort of fake popularity contest that will get people to give them money. I know, the logic is stupid, but that’s how conspiracy theories work. “I’m just asking questions”, “That can’t be right”, etc

kangusmangus

The logic is stupid indeed … because it’s trending on YouTube rn I can’t escape chess on YouTube rn 😂

TROLLS?.......WE'RE ROUNDING UP THE USUAL SUSPECTS angry

Given that there are millions of members of chess.com it is amazing the forums are as civilized as they are.  Being able to block people on threads you create seems like a smart way for helping to control the discussion.

I saw your first post on that other thread and thought your first person experience for getting into chess was interesting.  But I probably would have just left the discussion once it became unproductive just as I also stopped reading it.  There is no use arguing with the crazy people on the subway or assigning any value to their judgements.  There are some truly helpful people on the forums who are more worthy of your attention.  And the real test of character is to become one of those people.

Did the Scottman finally accept his British origins? Humbling.
