with respect to no. 4. yes, isis fighters have taken possession of air strike quality weapons. the men who would know how to use them are the former bathist military men who made up the old iraqi army and work for the sunni tribal leaders.
any western pilot hit while over isis territory cannot bail out but must try to fly the plane to turkey, jordan, etc., for if they bail out they will be beheaded for sure.
I used to keep up with news and politics but not so much anymore. I just have a few questions that are probably easily answered by anyone with some background knowledge in the ISIS situation, if you please:
1. These airstrikes will be taking place within the borders of a sovereign state (Syria). Has the state expressed any sentiment regarding these impending airstrikes? If so, what?
2. What happens when these airstrikes kill Syrian civilians? Will the Syrian government's acquiescence (if given) erode at that point?
3. Is Syria still closely allied with Russia? (I know they basically were a Soviet satellite in the 1970's but like I said I haven't kept up.) This could complicate matters if Syria complains.
4. Does I.S.I.S. have the military equipment to shoot down attacking airplanes?
5. And lastly, when are these strikes going to start? What are the logistical requirements?
Thanks.
