@FBloggs that's an interesting idea you have there, however, I'm not sure it is necessary to create such extreme measures. If the whining still causes problems, it can be considered.

Oh I don't care about the whining.  Someone mentioned making matches available as well as single games.  I think that's a good idea.  I would like to play a short match once in a while.  I also like the idea of getting rid of the rematch request feature.  It causes too many to believe it gives them a right to a rematch.

One of the qualities of a good chess player as well as technical ability is emotional stability. The cry babies who demand rematches lack this emotional stability and forever will not progress beyond a certain point.

That's a good point.  I've said before in one of these stupid rematch threads that if the loss of a chess game causes a player to fall to pieces and demand a rematch to get revenge, he needs to take up another game.  How would he handle a loss in a tournament?  No rematch available.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I want a rematch, I just use my mind-control powers against my opponents. They are powerless to resist, and always grant me the rematch. Resistance is futile! Is using one's mind control powers to get your opponents to blunder cheating?

In daily I always grant a rematch, even if the point differential becomes quite large. In bullet it's a different story, I only rematch those who play proper chess, people who play crap chess to try and confuse early on I never rematch. You know the types, the ones who push pawns none stop, or the ones who bring the queen out straight away, or the ones who sacrifice their bishop or knight straight away to prevent the castle. I don't have a particular problem with those people, I'm sure it works enough times, but I don't really enjoy those games as much because they don't require as much thought. But those who play proper openings I'll always grant a rematch to.

As silly as this is, its clear it rubs a lot of ppl the wrong way when someone declines a rematch. So I suggest the perhaps chess.com could look at a new 'match' feature where you could seek a match. It would involved pre-setting the no. of games you would like to play against whoever is your opponent.

So if someone is that keen to have multiple pops at the same opponent they could select 2 games in the match and only someone who has also similar setting would be paired to play. So you both play 2 games (or 4 or 6) as part of the match and then be on your way.

If one of the player abandons the match mid-way the other wins all the games that were left in the match and gets elos accordingly.

So in a 4 game match one of the player bails after the 1st game then the next three games are given to whoever stayed and elos given accordingly for him having won 3 games straight against that opponent.

Of course there should be a feature that allows players to shorten the match mututally. So if say two players are playing a 6 game match and after 3 games they feel they have had enough then they could both select the end match button and the game ends.

I think all rematch threads (esp. this one) are nonsense. However if players feel that strongly then this could be looked at. Perhaps as a paid members only feature.

This is a good idea except:

most people who want to rematch decide that they want a rematch only during the game. Some people want a rematch when they win. Some want a rematch when they lose. Some want a rematch when they lose miserably. Some want a rematch when they defeat their opponent very easily. Some want a rematch when they lose on time. Some want a rematch when they win on time. And how many matches they want to play with the same opponent also depends on similar issues.

In short, the urge to rematch is born during the game for most players and these people wouldnt want to commit to multiple games before the start of a game.  That means this eternal whining for a rematch is likely to continue.

Chessadore121as
You are not obligated to play a rematch.. Perhaps proposing a new mode in a “best of x” format to staff would be a more productive idea.

I don't think aborting before even playing the guy is right, but insisting on a rematch is wrong

Leaving after one game is not necessarily due to cowardice. There can be many other factors, so to assume cowardice is not valid.

And what if you want a 3rd, a 4th? Mandatory rematch lol. I agree they should get rid of abort, but this NAH

You're making a big mistake when you try to give a sincere answer to someone who is obviously an immature, narcissistic, rage-aholic.. Your intentions are good, but they are wasted. Just point at him and it's always a 'him') and laugh. He will either grow up or quit,

Its not always a 'him'. I remember one such encounter with a seemingly 'her'. I say 'seemingly', because you never know on the net. But, anyway, it is mostly 'him' because mostly chess sites are populated by men and boys. So, it is just a matter of probabilities.

I don't think gender has much to do with it.

And you wonder why the site doesn't do mandatory rematches?

EndgameEnthusiast2357

I honestly don't think anyone cares. The purpose is to play chess, not prove whose better or worse. It's for fun. There are about 10,000 games at any given time. PLENTY of availability aside from the rating filters

Quote of the year.   I couldn't agree more.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

They should secretly turn the abort button into a log-out button
