How many here blindly agreed to the TOS on this site without reading it first?

And then to outright complain about the exact thing they didnt even read??

Costelus you are out of line. There is an open forum where you can complain all you want. On the public forums, it his best business interest to maintain a level of civility. Honestly all you ever do is complain about chess.com. Just leave already.

Maybe one of his friends can start a goodbye topic for him.  We could all go there to say goodbye.  Kinda like a party.  Or a celebration.  LOL

I thought you were the guy all about spreading love?  Why are you trying to hurt another human being's feelings?

bigpoison...you're also good at picking up on insidious evil?  Smile  I'm glad you said something.

It seems to me that now that there's this "kids" chess.com thingy maybe the overlords here could mellow out on the moderation activities since the rational has been about how we have to keep it "clean" for the kids who come here.

Hey Erik, since we're now "open" here...

When is the ability to effectively "watch" other games going to be reimplemented?

Its more than just about the kids.  There are members here that dont appreciate seeing posts that are in bad taste, disrespectful to others, or are just plain rude.  It shouldnt be hard to have enough self control to come here, play chess, have a good time, and be respectful to others.

If you feel the uncontrollable need to act immature go to yahoo chess.

Well I'm sarcastic, pessimistic and easily irritated. I don't claim to be nice :D

I feel bad for costelus.  I think he was very emotionally invested in this site and I wish Erik had not said adios.  Maybe there's more to it than this TOS thing.  I don't really know.

LOL, girl you are too much.  A mutual friend says hi.  I could give you their email but you know why I can't.  My love is given to all freely, until it is returned with hate that is.  And I did do a LOL at the end, it was just a joke.  But I guess it's OK for bondiggity to get a crack in but not for me, eh?  Even though costelus got one in on me every chance he could.

Very strange post.

My hypocrisy alarm didn't go off after reading bongditty's post.

I am sick and tired of "yahoos" like you telling me and others, essentially:  "america, love it leave it".  You can stuff it buddy.  We are at liberty to discuss and opine at our will and you can suck it up and deal with it.

My issue is with the "heavy handedness" and arbitrary nature of the censorhip of some of the staff.

How is it possible for costelus to grow a bigger pair than he has? he is the most outspoken member of Chess.com and doesn't mind ruffling a few feathers. Please explain your comment, it makes no sense to me.

EDIT: ah, thinly veiled sarcasm... my Spidey Senses let me down this time.

CPAWN:

My point remains that if chess.com is making a concerted effort to make this site more "adult" and the kids site more "non-adult" then why not allow the content to be a bit more edgy here?  That DOES NOT MEAN I'm advocating for animated porn pieces or vile foul mouthed flame wars.

Grow up, or perhaps you should head over to the children's site.

i did all i could for costelus. i tried SOOO hard to work with him, including a personal phone call to him a few months back. but he can't stop whatever it is inside of him that makes him act the way he does. and frankly, i can't stand it anymore. if allowing him to act however he wants makes even 2 people leave the site, then we're going backwards. everyone on chess.com should be a positive influence on other people, not a negative one. and once somebody goes into "negative" mode where they are driving other people away, and can't turn it around after a few friendly and sincere messages, then what more can we do?

it's a fair point. that said, family-friendly doesn't necessarily mean kid-friendly. i run this site in the way that i think will maximize the happiness of the largest number of people (what can i say, i'm a utilitarian). this means that some prudes will be offended, and some free-speachers will be irritated. well what can i do - i can't please them both. so again, we have tried to pick a fair line to try to allow people maximum freedom while protecting some sense of general good. again, it won't please everyone. below i've pasted the topics that are not allowed. i also want to recognize that we don't always do a 100% perfect job of moderating. we're humans, and sometimes we make mistakes, have emotions, etc. we're trying to get better at being consistent.

thanks for your patience. we're one big family, and it isn't always easy to get along ;)

costelus is about as huggable as a porcupine but he did a very good job of afflicting the garden pests (ouachita on down). He had a real and valued function here, and not only in my eyes. He will be missed by us.

But hey, he was cute when he was young.

Awwwwww!
