Time glitch
Extreme lag could cause that.

So can disconnects (and these things can also cause lag).

Maybe, but the total time elapsed was shorter than the time ran off the clock. Also having the immediate subtraction of time when I moved my first piece, makes me think there was more at play.
What I mean is this.
1 I started the game and the clock starts counting down.
2 I move my piece at 58 seconds. When i dropped the piece the clock instantly changed to 53 seconds before.
3. this did not act like lag. where the clock stops and the opponent clocks starts then suddenly the times flop I.E the clock corrects at the beginning of the players move. It would happen only after I would complete a move.
4. I also timed out a game after only spending 35 seconds in play. (I timed it with a stop watch) The opponents clock had counted down 20 seconds, which mean I timed out after 15 seconds of play on my clock.
This incident has not repeated so I consider the issue closed ... until next time.
Thanks for the response
This topic comes up on a regular basis. The only real clock in the game is the server clock, and not what you see on your computer.
@Ceasar
Read note 4 from #3.
I timed out on a 60 second game after only 35 seconds of total play (as timed on a stop watch). no matter where the clock resides (server or otherwise) that cannot be a true result, unless my stop watch is completely broken. I am not looking for redress. I am merely curious if anyone else has experienced something similar?
Also. the app updates the client clock at the START of each players move. Thus if you see time being subtracted and the END of the move there is (was) a glitch in the system.

This topic has been discussed in detail many times.
I'm not really in the mood to give lessons on networking when it's been explained in detailed in earlier threads, then debated by other chess players that also spent years studying networking, passing certifications, etc.
