android tablet. 10 minute game. i moved within 5 to 10 seconds each move. i had to wait at least twice that time for my opponent to move. i still lost on time. my opponent clock was still 8 minutes! i watched his clock and watched it GAIN in time!

Against Calvarioj? You moved slower on every move except two. Of course you lost on time.
You can check the time used by looking at the grey-and-black bars at the right edge of the side-bar.
The times that you see WHILE playing the game are not exact, because your internet connection might lag. It's the times shown in the side-bar that are correct.

Thanks blueemu for taking the time to have a look :-) I have moved to the PC where I can see the little 'time bars'. It does show I took longer to move, however it didn't seem like that in the game. I was always waiting for my opponent and then tried to move quickly. I have never had this issue on the PC. On the android I have experienced this a few times. Anyway, it was a good game!

It was probably lag.
The time that you experience (and the time that your in-game clock shows) includes the internet lag in BOTH directions... from you to chess.com, from them to the opponent, from the opponent to chess.com, and from chess.com to you... since your android only knows how much time goes by between you moving a piece and the opponent's move arriving. So on your mobile, any communications lag that affects you will SEEM to happen on the opponent's time.
The actual times, as recorded by the chess.com server, record your lag and your opponent's lag separately... because the server knows whether the delay was at your end or your opponent's end. Your mobile doesn't know that.
