I am currently playing in the 2nd Chess.com Tournament (1401-1600). Mind you, my rating is 1800+ We're into the second round now. Now, at the start of tournament, god knows how long ago that was, I was floating around in the high 1400 to low 1500s. In fact, I remember crossing the 1600 rating mark for the first time and the feeling of accomplishment I felt. I barely made it out of the first round; they were all hard fought games. This was along time ago, though, I've gotten much better now, and I'm having my way with a lot of the players in round 2. If I advance, I know I'll start playing stronger players eventually to that I'm no longer easing my way to the next round. I'm not going to propose a change. I think in these huge tournaments a lot of players progress to a different level once the round is over.  Meaning, the best of the best got better. I mean, you can't get worse as time goes by.

Just a thought. =]

Very true.  In my 1201-1400 tournament i feel as thought i started around a 1300 and halveway through the first round i feel as though im around a 1400 player.

the problem, as i see it, is that the tournaments (3 days time control) take entirely tooooooooo long.  a year!!  that's crazy!

my rating tends to go down as i play in higher rated tournaments.  i guess that is a sign that i am truly over-rated.  or just not very patient.  even still THE TOURNAMENTS TAKE TOO LONG.

That's why the funniest tournaments are quick knockouts
