Out of context quotes are great ... no argument.
Was Ivanchuk just trolling the whole time at the Candidates?

Brilliance over a short length of time is easier than brilliance over a longer one. Whether that's comparing a move vs a game vs a tournament vs a career is irrelevant.
I'm saying his brilliance over his carrer overshadows his inconsistency over tournaments, you said it yourself, that it's easier for short times, and a tournament lasts less than a carrer
and watch your language!

Please Eseles, relax too. We all know what BS means. It does not mean Benign Shortcut, does it?
I think you both have your point made clear. And both perspectives have its validity. They can exist together without any contradiction.
Let's have a game between Ivanchuk and another genius: Shirov.

That's pretty genius, and it's under 40 moves!

If there's ever a Galactic Chess Championship, I would like to see Ivanchuk represent Earth.
... or he could represent Planet Ivanchuk, I suppose.

interesting.

@TheGrobe and @trysts: I agree, this game is amazing. Even for geniuses one can say: it takes two to tango. Ivanchuk can only play such a wonderful game when his opponent is also capable of playing wonderful chess.

Did you all notice the difference between calling someone's posts idiotic and calling the person an idiot?

Am I going to need a ruler to solve that riddle?

LOL good one, but a Master once said they will choose Houdini!

Winning Blitz championships more than a decade ago proves he doesnt use an engine. I take back my thoughts in post #6.

@mvtjc: What for an idea would aliens get about human beings when we let ourselves be represented by a computer? This is what they will tell to their children: 'It is a strange life form with only one arm and it looks more or less something like this:'

Why ask me? Ask Svidler
"when GM Peter Svidler was asked which one player he would choose to represent Earth in a hypothetical match against aliens, he answered "Houdini".[7]"

Tell me how I could know you were talking about Svidler? Anyhow, he seems a very nice guy to me and when I think that this is my most important question when I meet him, I will surely ask. :-)

Uhmm.. I don't get it. Why would I care if you know or not?
Relax.
