Just to be clear. I'm not anti Nigel Short. I like him. He is very Intelligent, well spoken, respectful to women, and has a very valid opinion which I share ... but it doesn't change the fact he is a hot topic right now
But don't worry, Nigel Short is a grown man, with a good sense of humor. Being the center of attention isn't something he has ever shied away from over his long career. Obviously :)
By the way, there was no "ad hominem arguments". what power_to_the_people was referring to in that comment is nothing to do with Nigel Short, it was actually to do with some ridiculous spastic posters, who are clearly swinging a tictac when they strike a pose.
Beautiful larch tree.
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you did not post that tree as a symbol of anti semitic hatred, or a womans legal right to have hairy armpits?
Watch out Nigel Short

Drop the "r" from little Carissa's name and... what do you have?
"Caissa", the legendary goddess of chess!

Nice Observation
@tkbunny "Democracy has hairy armpits" lol, that might be the most fantastic communist propaganda ever :)

She should play more FIDE-rated games so that I could compare her progress with those of other players. At eleven years old and at 1907 points (FIDE), Carissa is way behind what the world's top players (Fabiano Caruana, Wei Yi, and even Hou Yifan) had when they were her age, but the total amount of games played at that age is too small to make this an accurate comparison. Her USCF rating is considerably higher (~2200), but those ratings seem to be higher on average than FIDE ratings; even if they weren't, she'd still only be at around the same level as Hou Yifan was.
Unfortunately, Carissa doesn't seem like an incomparable prodigy; more like another very strong player. But of course, time will tell us the final word.

[...] you can still keep your defeated ideas "alive" by recycling them as jokes and it has the nice side effect of making you immune to rational input, since you can now shrug it off as "lack of humour".

If you wanted to just talk about and admire this talented little girl, you could have easily done it without:
a) repeating false and libelous statements about one of the greatest (if not the greatest) British chess player of all time.
b) acting like a child and responding with crass insults when she (rightly so) gets called out on repeating (a).
I agree 100%. The OP of this forum is utterly despicable. I have yet to see the evidence from the statement she showed
"women have tiny brains and only good for making sandwiches and babies"
^^ When did Nigel Short say that?
If you do not have the proof to back up that claim than it shows you simply made that statement up.
Which shows you are a Scoundrel(which means dishonest or unscrupulous person)
You are also demonstrating sexism. Which is a stereotypes of gender roles.
An you may call it as people being "SAD";however, what you are doing can get you "BANNED". It is against chess.com rules to do these action's.
Sexisim is not tolerated and the verbal calling out/bashing of Nigel short is not acceptable.
Nigel Short is an extraordinary Grand Master who is able to crush many title players blind folded in simul's. He suffered a defeat to the hands of Garry Kasparov a couple of day's ago. However, Garry Kasparov is a legend in chess and the fact Nigel was even able to win or draw a game against him speaks volume's. It demonstrates that even Nigel can give some high level players a run for their money on a given day.
An your little statement below with your smiley face thinking its ok upsets me even more.
"but it doesn't change the fact he is a hot topic right now "
After having to deal with the psychological burden of losing alot of games against Garry Kasparov. You find it cool/funny to bash him even more!!!!
You are bashing a person. who is already down. You are a despicable person. How do you live with yourself?
Bashing a Grand Master who could destroy you in a chess game.
I don't know who Carissa Yip is however I will find out on my own. I will not read any more of your lie's.

After having to deal with the psychological burden of losing alot of games against Garry Kasparov. You find it cool/funny to bash him even more!!!!
I do!

If the worst "psychological burden" you've had is losing a few chess games, even at that level, you've had an easy life...rejoice!

What ever happened to that Awonder Liang kid? WC match 2028?
Lookin' good for a twelve-year-old:
http://ratings.fide.com/id.phtml?event=2056437
For reference, that's 400 points (FIDE) higher than Carissa at age 11. Maybe we should set up a betting pool to see which of these child prodigies makes it into the top ten. My money's on this Liang kid, and maybe Wei Yi.

Her father is wrong. Magnus always walks around looking at the other games, and that makes him better. He learns. Carissa is doing the right thing. Look at the picture, she got that typical Magnusattitude, looking at games.

Carissa Yip is coming for you from elementry school MR... "women have tiny brains and only good for making sandwiches and babies"
Nigel Short never said that, you lying scumbag.
You think you will get away with your libellous post? Don't be so sure!
http://www.imediaethics.org/News/4884/Singapore_prime_minister_wins_libel_lawsuit_against_blogger.php
I think I'll get away with it lol, do you think you'll get away with being that sad ? wow .. and why call me a lying scumbag? can you not process humor, what is wrong with you ?
@-CP6033
CP6033 "These types of reports mean nothing and reposting one of them seems pointless as everyone inside the chess cirle A. already knows it and B. could probably do most of the stuff mentioned themselves or C. is total garbage."
Its shocking how petty those observations are. really! this is a cute little amazing child doing nothing but loving chess. you are acting like she stole your boyfriend.
why care so much what some random reporter said? you are so angry about it ?
I hope you are like a super spoiled homeschooled fat 13 year old. don't let me down by being an adult.
To me personally, and many of the worlds great chess players, this unimportant kid is one of the most amazing chess minds ever seen. World records don't come easy in chess. period.
18 months after learning to play chess she was hanging out with Polgar, and her oppinion does count. since she is a Titan in the chess world.
Carissa only learned to play in 2010, just over 4 years later she is a master, who beat a seasoned grandmaster in a tournament.. and she has been beating great players ever since.
"What does she always play in scholastic tournaments? It's a minor point, but when the source isn't credible neither is the information and neither is the point. "
what are you even saying ?
she has outperformed Magnis didn't she ? she was 1 year and 7 months younger than him when she became a titled master... whats your point if she played in scolastic tournaments ? who hasnt ?
maybe she is not just a novel joke .. lets wait and see, she has another 13 years to learn the game before she is Magnus Carlsen's age.
but then again who cares, she is a sweet kid loving chess. if you don't like my post, feel free to cry more.
Uh huh. Thanks for confirming my suspicious about your interpreting skills. You'll note in my post I said nothing about Carlissa Yip not having achieved great things, simply that posting reporters articles makes you look ignorant-something that is being confirmed the more and more you say.
"What does she always play in scholastic tournaments? It's a minor point, but when the source isn't credible neither is the information and neither is the point."
The meaning of this is ovbious. Your source for your post sucks, and so the point of your post has information that is flawed. This takes away from the point of your post. Try wikipedia, it's not bad as a source of information.
"Its shocking how petty those observations are. really! this is a cute little amazing child doing nothing but loving chess. you are acting like she stole your boyfriend."
Two things, learn what a shift button does and then once you have figured that out re-read my post. Again I didn't say anything about Carlissa Yip who seems to have a great future in chess. My point was your post was showing you didn't know how to filter your sources of information and was clearly written by a reporter as was confirmed. Typical troll......twisting and misinterpreting whatever I say.
kco-couldn't be, if it was I'd be blocked already, and if I cease to post think the ovbious.

i think this forum has to be read in addition of the main one on Short scandalous use of science vocabulary. lisa's intention i presume was to kept a little space of discussion away from the scandal for dreaming of a better future for chess where women beat men as much as men beat men. and it has certainly nothing to do with any kind of expert knowledge about the number of moves one is able see ahead of his or her opponent.
Not exactly sure what you mean...."where women beat men as much as men beat men" what does that mean? Surely you mean "where women beat men as much as men beat women"......also was you last comment in reference to my comment?

What we really need is equality of legal rights. As for abilities, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Nature seems to purposefully produce diversity, not clones with identical abilities.

why is that an ideal future? I find it difficult to see why people seem to think it's a better future to have men and women of equel strength in chess. Certainly it's better to have more people playing chess, both men and women, but why is this equality of level of play desired? What do you mean by equality?
" lisa's intention i presume was to kept a little space of discussion away from the scandal for dreaming of a better future for chess where women beat men as much as men beat men"
Why is this a better future? Why would it be a desired future? I fail to understand why this would be better. Surely having more people playing chess (as I previous mentioned) is good for the game but why does this aspect of that matter? Not that if it came to be it would be bad, it would be simply a change in the development of chess, but how would it benifit the game?
trying to find the perfect man is like trying to find atlantis. thats the lyrics of the country song i posted. but i think you could say also that trying to find men able to process humor is like trying to find atlantis. i still cannot believe what i'm reading here. i mean that is unbelievable
As I see it, humor is here used because the anti Nigel Short-people ran out of arguments. Closed and stubborn people do not retract their positions when they run out or arguments, instead they switch to humor and ad hominem arguments and such. This way you can still keep your defeated ideas "alive" by recycling them as jokes and it has the nice side effect of making you immune to rational input, since you can now shrug it off as "lack of humour". The defeated ideas can then go on as zombie-deas: Rationally dead, proved wrong and not a part of the natural world, but kept alive by emotional forces.
And this means that people can keep the ideas that make you feel good and avoid the ardous procedure of actually admitting you are wrong, in this case, avoiding to accept the overwhelming evidence that male and female brains are different.
And to round this off, a centered picture of a larch tree.
