Honestly, you are currently a bit too low rated to understand middlegame concepts. Get to a higher level, and then weèll show you

my rating determines weather i should be able to be shown something? does it matter that much? get out mate

I am saying that it will be too advanced for you. If you do not know the basic principles of chess, there is no way you can understand middlegame concepts

how can you assume that i dont know the basic prinacples?  rating means nothing dude. ive been playing for several months now and i already read about the basics of the game

I'm not talking about how the pieces move and stuff like that. I'm talking about stuff like controlling the center and a lack of a king's defense. Do you know any of that?

Based on a game between 2 players rated FIDE or USCF 2200+ the transition between the opening and the middle game is usually a pawn break(s). Depending on the opening and the defensive system selected there can be between 2 and 5 pawn breaks that the pawn structure demands. The pawn break signals the beginning of the plan of attack. The pawn break is the first move in the plan of attack. There is usually 2 or more plans of attack that the attacker can select from based upon the defensive system selected.

very instructive and enlightening to me. Its abstract knowledge, because I am way to unskilled to use such information. But its interesting to know anyway. thank you. Now I have to go and learn me some chess.

Books like My System by Nimzowitsch and Middlegame Planning by Romanovsky are excellent for the question posed. Most of wafflemaster's comments are treated at some length in these two books. Stean's Simple Chess also might be helpful. However, if you are new to chess books, you could do a lot worse than starting with Chernev's Logical Chess (just don't believe everything that he says).

Nimzo discusses "mysterious" Rook Moves. They are the least Mysterious of all. Straight up and down or sideways. Nothing mysterious about that.

It's things like them pawns that sneak bind you, and knick you off that mystifies me. And them Kings and Rooks which cross without all the particles that whizz around inside colliding. And them equine things that swerve, and don't even have to collide with anything.

Give me Othello every time. You lay 'em down and they stay put. But the way they change colour on you can be a bit confusing.

I do agree that Chernev is irving (or something like that) in some of the things he says. Why did the Berlin Defence all of a sudden come into my head? Must be dissociation of ideas, or stream of unconsciousness!

Perhaps all will be Fine if I call in Reuben. He fixed heads as well, I hear.

Also Chess Praxis. The two are a pair. Often something that I remember from one turns out to be in the other.

GargleBlaster a écrit :

10 PRINT "Let's play a game of chess!  I'll start: 1.d4"

20 INPUT "What is your move? ", MOVE$

30 PRINT "I play 2.Nf3 and offer a draw.  Accept(Y/N)?", DRAW$

40 IF DRAW$ = "Y" GOTO 10 ELSE PRINT "OK, I RESIGN."

The problem is with your relative terminology.  The word "basic" has no meaning (or different meaning) to stronger players who are NOTORIOUSLY bad at chess pedagogy.

Find a player 200 pts above you to teach you since all of their knowledge is correct for your level.  They can't go wrong.  FTW!

My middle-game strategy is 'cup-of-tea' and take stock!

Nice post by waffelmeister, do all that :)

My current plan for longterm OTB play (in blitz the plan is more simple: be not the last one to blunder) is this:

1. Finish development.

2. Find (or create) a weakness in the opponent's camp.

3. Attack it with as many pieces as possible.

Good plan.

Cannot fail.
