To me poker is peaks and valleys - highs and lows sprinkled with a rush if your poker gods are all in a row. Fun only if your winning.
To me chess can be tantamount to slow death.

That really depends on the opponent(s) and how much is being bet.
I would say you cannot compare chess and poker that easy.
I have played nearly 12 hours of chess at a house and had much fun nearly forgot to eat.
poker is fun also to become good at but nomatter how good you become a new player can always get a royal stret flush without knowing poker.
Chess, because I suck at poker and always lose. At least when I play chess, I have a bit of an idea of what I'm doing.
money can make anything fun, ever tried playing poker without it?
Chess is a game to its own
I have played poker without money quite a lot with my coworkers and it is perhaps even more fun. The first loser had to have an ugly trophy at his desk visible. Nobody complained if minor errors occured during the game but adding just 10 cents and every body was upset if a minor errors happened. Nobody got bankrupped
poker is still fun because you have the poker chips and you can pretend that you are pro.
most people play texas holdem. but I like 5 cards poker as well.
I would still not say what is funnier.
Poker? Chess? Who would Do a thing like that?! (sorry. that was awful. just awful. seriously. I'm really sorry.)
well, with two completely different game forms, one would have to find a connector to give it a fair balance.
Chess is played by two people. Poker can be played by two people, but it's about as boring as watching the lawn grow. Or...poker is generally a four person game. I guess we have vote chess that would match that point. So, Chess is more adjustable.
Betting? The earlier point about betting forgot to mention that there are other ways to bet. Strip poker, for example, where one player loses a piece of clothing for every lost hand. Then again, since it lasts so long, strip chess would have to begin with both players wearing fifteen pieces of clothing (with a possible loser loses it all clause) and would be done in one game. (I'm just dreaming out loud) d=^))
Poker, which takes some skill, is driven by luck in a big way. Chess, which takes a fair amount of learning, is driven by that learning, though on occasion, the opponent throws us a great lucky bone (Queen en prise, King unguarded, and so on)
So, in my opinion, which counts about as much as a male Mantis mounting a female Mantis, the two games are too different to compare fairly.
Well....unless there's different goals. For example, stacking cards is sometimes a competition. Stacking Chess pieces is more of a noisey racket that insures losing a piece or two under the couch for the dog to find and chew later.

Exactly, poker is boring as hell unless there are stakes involved (not necessarily money).
How many poker/chess threads are there? 50?
Wanna bet?

Dogs can also snatch pieces right off the board for a quick chew. Lesson learned some dogs are very smart.
Personally I don't like poker.
Can we delete all of these chess/poker threads except for 1?
the problem of only having one thread is that the thread will eventually get old and some posters starts annoyingly nitpick that the OP is no longer here. even though the op isn't important for the discussion.
in order to prevent it- it is nessesary with new post.
Poker players! Or chess players who like fiddling around with the chips more than the actual game! We're making a chess set out of poker chips that's super fun (and stackable!)

For me, it's Poker, even though I realize that Chess is more of a challenge and a battle between two minds than anything else.
But Poker feels more like a game.
