These topics always generate a lot of speculation but ignore the literature. There's a paper here: Does chess need intelligence. I would summarise it but I'd rather that anyone who is generally interested in the facts, extracts the information which they're looking for, themselves.

The average IQ on this site is slightly below the average IQ in the population as a whole.

Wrong. Average IQ on this site is 140.

Wrong? Me? That’s rare.

The average IQ of the general population is 100. Chess is a game that appeals to those who enjoy mental pursuits, so the average IQ of chess players is likely a bit above that, say 110-115. This site is populated by chess players, so the average IQ on this site is probably the same 110-115. The average IQ of those commenting in chess.com forums often appears to be 10-20 points lower than that.

10 to 15 is a whole standard deviation, depending on the test. It's quite a lot. The average theoretical physicist is probably 1 to 2 standard deviations above the norm, but the average chess player? No way.

And the average rating here is something like 500... it sounds very rude, but I'm just being honest when I say most of the people here are not actually chess players... downloading an app and playing 10 games at school doesn't make you a chess player any more than buying a pencil makes me an artist, or buying a guitar makes me a musician.

So yeah, the title asks: "What is the avg. IQ of players on chess.com?"

And the answer is probably whatever the average IQ of a 14 year old is... which is 100.

More annoyingly, the average intelligence of people on chess.com is that of an average 14 year old... which is why you say most people on the forums seems stupid. An adult with an IQ of 100 is a smarter person than a 14 year old with an IQ of 100, so to you people here seem dumb.

That's a joke, son. I say, that's a joke.

I think chess is cool, like bugs. Mmm, yummy. I like bugs, they taste good.

My IQ was accurately estimated and found out to be 109 from a fairly accurate test. We never know if it changes in the future. So, I would recommend you taking it twice an year. As a secondary school student, I think it's fairly good to have above 100 IQ. Additionally, I do well academically. The less questions you do, the less accurate the results turn out to be because of the levels (Easy, Medium and Hard). I would recommend you this IQ test which I did : https://brght.org
