What is the relationship between IQ and chess.com trophies?

Is there a relationship between ones IQ and chess.com trophies, and if so what is that relationship?

I doubt it. People of many IQ's can win chess.com tournaments for trophies, and people who are geniuses may falter when it comes to chess. Skill has a direct relationship with trophies, I would think.

I tend to agree with AuraLancer, we had a topic here once about IQ and success in chess and the only study cited showed that people with lower IQs actually did slightly better. I would say that visualization skills and practice determine tournament winners.

Ok AC I realize that forums here are not a reputable source, but the study was. And I realize that there were probably multiple threads on this, but I only read one.

I find all such "studies" semi-reputable (at best). Wink

But... why? I followed the original link - it was a university study.

lol

You can't exactly completely discredit a university study...though the issue is still largely undecided.

sure I can

I was hoping for a somewhat more serious and thoughtful answer to my super cerebral question, beginning, perhaps, with a brief analysis of what is a chess.com trophy, exactly, and how, exactly, does one acquire one? I think when we can settle that matter we can begin to chip away at the correct answer.

First tell me the university, then I'll tell you whether or not I can discredit the study.  For example, did any recent US president go to that university, which president, and how wealthy and well-connected were their parents?

What we first need are a number of university-sponsored studies to determine the answer to the question of what, exactly, is a chess.com trophy.  No doubt the grant money is already getting ready to roll on that very matter.

Hey, you completely forgot to mention the football team.  That's the most important thing!

There is a very strong correlation (1.0) between the # of trophies given out by a person and the IQ level of a person.

In other news, there's no relationship between me and my trophies.

It's very hard to get universally sponsored studies...

That was funny, batgirl :)

Oh I see, I was feeding a troll. Never mind.

I'm kind of a funny person, or so I'm told.

Which is surprising (I mean, you'd think the universe would care more).
