Illegal or impossible is a better way to put it.

MickinMD

The first board is an illegal position: both K's can't be in check simultaneously since a King in check's next move must be to move out of check.

On the second board, no piece is Pinned or Skewered since moving does not open an attack to a piece behind it.  Moving any King off the e-file results in a Discovered Attack.

Remember that a Pin is when an attacked piece can't move or else it allows a MORE valuable piece behind it to be attacked.

Remember that a Skewer is when an attacked piece has to move out of the way of an attack and by doing so allows a LESS valuable piece behind it to be attacked.
