What is your favorite chess quote?

Sort:
-Leroy-

"Chess players notoriously suffer from bad cases of the trots, or at the very least an upset stomach. I’ve heard lots of theories on why this is true, the most predominant one being that when we play, the blood goes to our brains and neglects our digestive system. This leads to cramps, turtling, and severe panic about crapping one’s pants."

Probably the worst chess quote ever

Why? It's pretty good.

If an ounce of common sense can do miracles then why cant the opposition guy be able to sense the move? Does that mean the opposition doesnt have an ounce of common sense? lol.

Absolute nonsensical quote to say the least! Lets not forget the main thing is to deceive your opponent unless your playing positional chess. An ounce of common sense cant do that if your playing against a quality opponent.

Are you kidding me?
It's saying knowledge of the game is better than opening theory. It makes perfect sense.

Unfortunately, he didn't keep that promise:

To me, chess is not a game; it is art.
Yes, I consider chess an art and accept all
the responsibilities that art places upon its devotees.

The best answer you can hope for is something vague like: 'It all depends on the position.' Anything else will be a half-truth or a lie!

Further to post nr 233 : Alekhine also said : Chess is vanity - and - Chess is not only knowledge and logic.
