Chin of Quinn: What you don't understand, my immature friend, (I'm assuming you read the original post of this thread) is that there are some subjects and/or situations for which mirth and levity are inappropriate.
Wrong. You get. Nothing. You lose. Good day sir.
So, Chin of Quinn, you will take your bad attitude and go home. Just what I expected. Have you ever considered that when criticized it may be better to reflect on one's position rather than lash out.
Of course.
However, you're too serious. This is a silly topic. I post seriously in serious topics.
Just what I expected.
As if you're a regular. I'm on here every day and I've never seen you.
Of course.
However, you're too serious. This is a silly topic. I post seriously in serious topics..
the long necked man makes a good point. look at the calendar. we are not living in the '90's.
it is fair to question others, but, on a website...
also, chin, i have read some of your posts here that are not serious, so, maybe discretion should be considered.
Welcome Arlene. You will find allot of idiots/haterz on here. Best thing to do is disable chat and block them if you are not one for troll banter.Only a tortured soul tortures another. Theres some genuine people on here. Youre get used to it if you hang around long enough. And there are plenty of nice women on here, some great players, GM's, IM's, FM's,etc. I would suggest joining as many groups as you can until you find one that suits you with like minded people. Good luck friend.
Of course.
However, you're too serious. This is a silly topic. I post seriously in serious topics.
My friend, please reread the original post that started this thread. This is most definitely not a silly topic. This is about respect between man and woman. I admit that I am taking a serious tack but if you think about the implications of the OP's concerns you must concede the seriousness of this topic.
I hate to say it but yes. The woman can die and the game goes on. But, when the king is dead. Well, then it must all stop
Of course.

I don't know how new you are to internet things in general (I see you had a topic asking how to quote), but even on chess.com people post fabricated scenarios for the purpose of generating as many replies as possible. Particularly low hanging fruit in the past has been to post about anything gender related such as women only titles and tournaments.
Also low hanging fruit has been to pose as a female.
So already it's hard to believe the OP is honest, but if this were all I would give the benefit of the doubt. Two additional points pushed it over to the silly side for me:
1) The OP's 2nd to last sentence assumes her opponent was male, and makes the leap from complaining about rude behavior to making a statement about male players in general. This had nothing to do with her experience and is a big red flag because it mimics the dishonest people who are only interested in generating replies.
2) The OP's avatar is an adult. So even if she were female, and this did happen, this is an extremely trivial incident for an adult. People are rude all the time online (to both males and females) and it's 100% not personal. They don't know you, what you look like your name, or anything else. Many of the rude people are even children, especially on a site like this. This sort of rude behavior is something even children learn to not take seriously, so I have trouble believing an adult was upset by it. You can even think of it as a measure of respect, that I won't coddle an adult over something like this.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the first few replies offered sympathy and the usual advice (blocking, disable chat). The OP also said she reported the users.
So that's it, that's all the serious stuff out of the way. In a topic like this I wouldn't have posted something silly if I were the first response.
Some people are new and dont expect this type of behaviour ChinQuinn. From what i read youre suggesting,or implying Arlene is fake? I like to take people on face value, until i see different. But if true, well done for spotting it. Im not so sure though!

Well, I'm not sure.
But like I said, even if it is honest, the OP got serious and empathetic replies to start the topic, and this sort of light abuse is just part of being online.
You you beat someone and made them rage. That means you played correctly and you got a bonus. Your opponents let their egos play for them and you shattered those egos. You go, girl!
Chin of Quinn: You make a lot of assumptions about the OP. Even if they are all correct, which I doubt, the seriousness of the topic remains. If you defend uncivil rhetoric as par for the course in important subjects then it seems to me you are simply a part of the problem. After all the world (of the internet) is what we as humans make it.

therein lies the rub. there is no way for us to know with no input from the op that claims to be discredited for gender.
kinda a funny thing for those of us that like to make fun of stupid posts. we don't know if the op is serious or not.
after seeing all the posts, i think we'll know.
Great response Arlene, its a pleasure to have people like you here. There have been and there are many fake people on here,so its understandable some people are a little too paranoid. Hope you enjoy yourself, its a big site. Bless.
the seriousness of the topic remains.
Yes, the seriousness remains, however I judge even the topic itself as being relatively trivial. Everyone who plays chess (or any game) online experiences this. Since it's impersonal and since both parties are anonymous, people realize it's easily ignored. It's not suffered, it's just ignored.
If the OP has other problems that makes this difficult for her, I'm honestly sorry to hear that, and I hope she recovers, and is able to still enjoy chess.
After all the world (of the internet) is what we as humans make it.
I don't ever insult the people I play online, and I would never encourage this behavior.
As for responding to people who are troubled by it, it's not enough to coddle them. They need to understand (if they wish to continue playing) that this is something to be expected, and that we've all experienced it.
My experience has been that the verbally abusive people mostly play "baby" chess...i.e...blitz and bullet...play longer games like daily and rapid and the abuse dies down somewhat....
