What must I do? I'm addicted in chess.com

Thoughts.. Laughing

start a chess addict anonymous in your local area...discuss how the other areas of your life have suffered...how food doesn't taste the same anymore...

Don't worry about it, Bendcat. It's a perfecly acceptable addiction. It's good that you derive a lot of pleasure from the game itself and from chess.com. I suffer from the same disorder with a commercial side effect---I continue to purchase ( hoard ) chess software and hardware without shame! Surprised My wife asked, " How many chess sets do you need? " I always tell her that it's an emergency. Cool

Seriously,

If chess is hampering your ability to be productive at work or is affecting interpersonal relationships you value, you do have a problem and I'm not joking.

With the number of games you can have going on at any given time, the anticipation of your opponent's next move, ruminating over your positions, Chess can start to take over if you aren't careful.

I strongly recommend that if anyone out there feels that they are losing control over their ability to stop playing; they need to "Take a break".

Take time out.  Read a book.  Go for a walk.  Refuse to accept new games.   Give yourself a couple weeks of zero chess.

Chess is fun, but it can be addicting and it's not worth losing a job over.

I say this: I am a chess addict AND a coffee addict. Try those on for size at the same time. Now, buying chess sets is not part of my addiction - primarily because of the money attached to those items - but reading and thinking about chess takes up some of my time. I just never get to play a human!!! Sad, really. Sad. The lone chess/coffee addict - isolated in a world of chess books and expensive chess sets. Pray for me...

Chess addicts (and coffee addicts) of the world...UNITE!

i wouldn't woory too much. if it becomes a real problem, try doing some crack, heroin, or methamphetamine and if your'e lucky you'll like one of those ALOT, and soon you'll be so caught up in dealing with your next fix that chess will be the furthest thing from your mind.

Theres nothing wrong with addiction to chess...Its a great game.SmileMaybe you could take a holiday and get away from the computer for a few days?^_^

There are lots of tricks so you can continue and let your family and friends think you have quit. Play only at work, play from your garage, get a secret apartment in a bad part of town and set up your computer there and only play from there

Well, chess is a passion as much as it is a game. I enjoy both the intellectual part of it and as well as the hardware/software part. Tomorrow, UPS will be delivering a nice chessboard I ordered a week ago and a CD on the Caro-Kann Defense. It's a wooden board with coordinates, 2.25 inch squares. That would be my, approximately, fifth wooden board. They are all nice. My collection of CDs and DVDs fill an antique wooden box I have in the closet. Disturbing day for me when I browse through the web, and find that there isn't anything new there I would like to order. As for competing, I just played at the Northeast Open two weeks ago, and now I already have a room reserve for the Continental Open on August 11th. Before that, I competed in Lake George for the New York State Open (June?). This weekend, there is the U.S. Open here in New Jersey, and if my bike tour does not materialize due to bad weather, I will be playing there too. I have all these tournaments lined up plus my regular monday night tourneys at my local club. Oh, I also play chess in Bryant Park during my lunch hour on weekdays! You know what? After all these, chess is still a lot cheaper than flying small airplanes ( earned my pilot's license in 2001 )!

Yes if chess starts to rule your life you must take a break. Read a chess book, watch a chess movie, go on a chess web site......wait i think i'm a addict. Oh well!

I also think chess addiction can be serious.

Any compulsion can keep us from leading a more fullfilling life. We tend to avoid social interaction, being out in nature and being creative and working hard!
