What's your excuse not achieving 1000 rating?

But some people know how to defend or attack so like it is possible to get 1000 but you need to understand your opponent defends and attacks

Well said!! Thank you!

#54 and me? I started as a beginner here. Now look where I am. If you say 1800 is low everyone will laugh in your face. I'm 13 years old. My main problems with lichess:
1. Its interface and design. It's really annoying to play on and navigate.
2. Its ratings. They are so hell inflated, even less closer to OTB ratings than chess.com.
I could list more, but this is all for now. And I'm concerned that a fund based website doesn't have the money to setup a good cheater finding system….

But I use lichess for studies, they have the Woodpecker method there. It's very good.

Another problem with Lichess: you can't change your username.

i think 1800 is a decent player but you would be closing in on titled if you were playing OTB instead

I always wanted to play OTB, but I couldn't get there yet. I already have a FIDE ID though, but I couldn't find a chess club because the federation's website is rarely working, and they are not on Google Maps. And you can only participate in OTB chess tournaments with a club here. But I have ordered a ChessUp 2 eboard to play online and OTB at the same time.

thats sad. i'm kind of lucky because my city has about 500 chess clubs lol

Mine has like 5 but only God knows where they are. Gotta investigate more.

We have jobs. Maybe chess isn't something for us, and we don't take it seriously. I only play chess to relax, and to occupy myself. I'm not speedrunning to 2000 rating

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

hmm ask your parents maybe. you're talented but you need proper otb experience to use that talent

Avatar of chesssblackbelt

also you might win money in an unrated tournament so you can convince your parents to help you like that

My parents are supporting me, it's not that. I've been sick lately too. But now I'm really determined to join the club because there will be a rated rapid 10|3 tournament in December, with pretty good prizes (hundreds of euros).

I once was over 1000 elo. Then I didn't play for a while and dropped below 300 elo.

That's quite a drop. It might be more a 'motivation' drop than a knowledge drop. Don't let it discourage you - your Ratings will increase on their own when it is time.

900 here. Most people have trouble reaching 1000 because chess is a long journey of learning. Yes, if someone really wants to reach 1000, they can play, and they will eventually get there. With enough time and commitment, you can reach it without studying. However, this requires time. While the amount of time someone takes to reach 1000 will vary from person to person, most people need time in order to reach 1000.

For example, me. I have been playing for around two years. I am at a stable 900 and have happily plateaued. There are also plenty more people who are below 1000. The average Blitz rating is statistically around 700, so anything above that is actually “above average.”

Tyler1 is the exception, not the rule. It is not fair to a significant portion of the chess community to judge the entire chess community’s improvement rate on one person.

Think about it this way. If I have 100 people in a room, and I pick one, and they say that they’re 1200 in chess, I cannot directly assume that all 99 other people in the room are also 1200 in chess. Even if I go to 2 or 3 and they all say they are as well, the amount of data I have cannot necessarily be used as basis for a conclusion for the entire room.

Would 1000 be great? Of course. But whether our ratings are 3 digits long or 4, we, at the end of the day, are all humans trying our best. It is not fair to use the success of one person as a baseline for the rest of the general chess population.

😍 this!

My excuse is

I dont really play chess lol

But seriously though, we should stop caring about the ratings and just enjoy the game. If you only care about the ratings and dont even have fun when playing chess, you should quit.

i hope you realize that a notable portion of us don't want to pursue chess as a passion and just do it as a side hustle
