Don't believe the lies. Indians are even worse than the Chinese about claiming things.
I think it's the same as with music and literature. No matter which culture you look at from whatever time period, you'll always find instruments with strings, just as you'll also find poetry. I suppose it's the same thing.

in india long ago our king's wife madri invented that but it was playing with real people. so chanakya of India made 64 square's chess^_^
It is debated between India, Persia, and Europe. I think if you are talking the modern rules we have right now, probably Europe...
Lower Slobovia invented chess. Many great inventions were made by the Slobovians but they get no credit for them, instead credit for their greatest inventions are always given to India, Greece, Persia and so forth. In addition many people believe that Lower Slobovia and Upper Slovia are one country, actually they are two independant countries. The people who live in those countries actually speak different languages and have different religions.
