Jeremy Silman - although not a player at the highest level, he has written or co-authored tons of best selling chess books. Most chess fans know who he is, even if they don't like his style. His system of imbalances is going to be in existence for a long time.
Who Had Best Chess Career?

Thanks for the help!
I forgot all about them but their name will keep coming up on topics like this! Champions live on.
Hey i joined a couple leagues. At first i had to beg to get on a team. When i did play it was a horrible team. That changed funny and with jokes about my game. Won my first championship and could not say no enough times to teams that wanted me. People wanting to coach me for free. Favors coming out the woodworks. Getting to play with better players which always helps your game and take pressure off.
Hey so imagine when i won my 2nd and 3rd lol. CHAMPION!
Dan the Man could not get the job done! Choke! They laughed at Eli and called him scary kid! Now he has won 2 championships he mentioned among the "Elite".
All the jokes stop when you wil a championship, nobody cares how many times you choked in games. DYNASTY is only mentioned with championships. Back to Back ......"Champions".
Even in Track and Field we remember the Champion..... Bolt is the first name that comes to mind. The current Champion. When a champion gets defeated it is heard every where and talked about for a long time. Anybody else it will be over after the weekend past.
Who do they have parades for---- The Champion! no Dan Marino
What do we remember Jordan for 3 peat Champion? How are other NBA teams that win their first champion? They are compared to who won the most championships! Kobe is chasing Jordan for more Championships to say he had the best career! He wants it to decided on who won what? The most championshiops!
When they talk about rivals even in Soccer they talk more about who won the most championships! That is the only stat that truly matters the most!

I would say since you live in the US!
Your know Howard Eskin!
And his response to what you said....so brutally wrong!

SO RoyalBishop, you think Joe Gilliam had a better career at QB than Dan Marino because he has a SuperBowl ring and Marino doesn't?
Sorry dude, you're simply delusional. You simply don't understand the question being asked.

Dan the Man ........choke.
Buffalo Bills choke 4 times.
Elway choke then won 2 Champions they never talk about him choking any more. "The Great Elway"
Back to Marino choke!
Even leave a Champion team and choke they still do not mention it.
You live in the United States so you know the routine!
What they say "It do not mean a thing without the ring" sure you here that on tv by their peers all the time. ESPN!
What they talked about before year 2000. All those NFC teams winning championships until Elway broke it up. Not Marino.... choke.
Baltimore has a wack QB but he is still playing and should be replaced why he has not lost his job( Career) He won a championshiop!
Brett Favre an Interception machine as of late unretired and starting QB, he won championships. Even till this date when a QB plays horrible the mention getting him for a year to try to win it all if all they need is a QB. Why he could continue his career?...... Championship.
How Jordan was allowed to a chance to play Baseball.... Championships. They knew he still not have it(he was good in baseball). They knew he would leave on his own. Why they kept him? To sell tickets to see a champion play a different sport. His career in another sport!
When they mention 2 sport great atheletes they mention a Champion first! 2nd best is Neon Deon! Do you know who was first?
Free agents without rings before retirement seek out the current champions. Hmmm they even take a serious pay cut. They already have all the other stats in their career. They know the only stat that matters is the Championship!
In the NBA you can beat your wife(horrible), shoot somebody and all is forgiven if you win a championship or won it. Get to resume your career right after you did your time! Do we have to count the Pro's who wen to jail and still popular and could get a job in their sport if they decided on it. We do it and it is all over!

Most recent Public #1 enemy Le Bron James!
He won a championship, i bet in a couple years all will be fine in Cleveland and welcomed! Hey maybe even coach the Cavaliers after he can not play. Why he won a Championship!

Judging complete chess careers, Gary Kasparov's is the best that I can think of.
He won the world title, was (almost) universally acknowledged as the best player ever while he was still active, made tons of money, wrote some great chess books that made him even more money, and is now in hot demand as chess coach to the best players in the world.
I have no clue who even comes close in that regard. Soviet era grandmasters had a horrible time living in a police state often with barely enough money to eat. (I'm thinking of Paul Keres and Mikhail Tal in particular.)
Before Bobby Fischer, it was very difficult to make a living as a chess player. It is hard to consider Emmanuel Lasker, Jose Capablanca or Max Euwe as having great chess careers regardless of their chess accomplishments.
Perhaps the only player who seriously competes with Kasparov would be someone like Bruce Pandolfini. He left competitive chess early, but managed to make a comfortable living teaching it and became something of a minor celebrity after one of his student's fathers wrote a bestselling book that became a pretty good movie.

Who Had Best Chess Career?
Count the Championship(s)!
A QB can have a lot of other stats but fails to win a championshiop in the United States of America is a ......failure.
A play can choke and throw interceptions and win a Championship and keep his job and continue in his field afterwards. Favre is still wanted amazing.
Eli is greater than Dan the Man. He won a Championship so is his brother as Payton. I do not like saying this about Eli but i have to respect it.
Elway over Marino any day. He got the job done Back to Back. He got results that is the point.
When they start their career the first goal is to win a .................?
"Championship"
What they show off? Their championship ring?
Dallas was horrible the reason when Aikman arrived the next year they won and all the laughter stopped. Who is better Aikman or Marino? Aikman... Who do you want to hear talk about winning a Super Bowl when it is on TV Aikman, Elway or Marion. What is Marino going to say lol. He will never be offered a job to comment on the Super Bowl!!!!

Bishop, can we get back to chess instead of some guys nobody outside the usa have heard of or care about?
Maybe you should make you own thread in off topic.

Sports and Chess require mental endurance!
Both have leagues! And Careers and Championship matches.
Same for Olympics! 4 years is brutal.
When the championship is the way to measure your career to your peers! The Best Career is measure among who won the most championships and the most consecutive championships!
Your Career could continue into a field that you know little or nothing about after you win a championship. Children books, food, singing, Real-Estate, in the Government and etc.
Win a championship and you more likely to get a coaching job after your not able to play at a high level. Name a player that has won 3 consecutive in Chess (or sport) and will always be mention among the best. Growing up as a kid when you first tell your parents you want to play pro( if you think you go that far). You want to win a championship and be remembered for it.
Now we have a lot of champions that have won many championships. The problem some won them in different time periods. Some over lap giving them the advantage of play some other champions. Some were beaten by other champions while not at the prime of their career! Maybe due to mental issues or issues outside of chess. Distractions hurt the mental game in chess!
How do we pick the best? I think we have to go by time periods to determine that here! More so as some will never had the chance to play each other. With on clear cut visible proof of the Best. Just Theory! And people want to maybe pick their favorites. Be honest!
More than likely if a trophy was to given for the Best Career it would be a champion...... but the most likable champion!

Ok, now you're just annoying. Hope you are happy that you spoilt an interesting topic with your incoherrent rants and too many exclamation marks.

And Kasparov is just another (partly) Jewish WCC taking on the Russians??
@Elroch's comment above (post #37) applies (equally well) to another WCC discussed ad nauseum in these forums.
Neat trick, @Elroch. You prove once again that "pinheaded" chess players dump will dump willingly on former WCC's.
You don't have to agree with Kasparov's political railings against the Russians in order to admire the guy, or his outstanding chess record. Ditto with Karpov. Both are "giants" of the game, with records to prove it.
Always time for another cheap put down? @Elroch's lazy-ass, one-line dismissals are his stock in trade.
No.
It's simply that Kasparov appears to be completely wrong about how the economy works. If anyone else with an imbalance of self-confidence and understanding had come up with the same idea, it would be equally wrong.

@Elroch Dear, GM Rogoff argued against. You simply provided a lazy-ass dismissal, just like you regularly deliver (to any and all comers) in the Cheating Forum.
You're essentially a "chess nobody," and you dismiss Kasparov with a wave of your hand? Stop making excuses and clean up your act.
Thousands of players make Expert Level in chess, and many hundreds of thousands of people have Ph.D's. So What. Very few will ever become WCC.
It's your "attitude" that hardly differs from @HisRoyalAssBishop. Please give your unctuous egos a rest, both of you.
I would say since you live in the US!
Your know Howard Eskin!
And his response to what you said....so brutally wrong!
I gave an example that totally destroyed your argument. Howard Eskin is not a rebuttal, nor is a list of famous players and teams who won championships.
I love Eli, he's a great QB and he seems like a good guy, but if you want to trade me Marino for Eli, well, be my guest. I'll take Marino eleven times out of ten and twice on Sundays.
RoyalBishop - so you are saying that you see Ruslan Ponomariov's career as superior to Bronstein's or Keres' or Korchnoi's or Reshevsky's or Nunn's because he won the championship and they didn't?
