From the historic standpoint, chess was not solely chess. There were many variations chess of that arose from similar ideas because after years, these ideas were spread out from lands to lands. So, to me, it is very ignorant to say that chess comes from a specific country.

Current thinking is that chess originated in India first played by the Buddha himself against a fox spirit over three thousand years ago.
