I don't think he meant "chess player"  as in all chess players of the world. Pretty sure he meant a top human who is good looking, which is magnus ofc.  So posting pics of some random player is not very good

The only male who can begin to compete in the looks department against the female chessplayers is Alexander Morozevich.

The joke was that Morozevich married Geri Halliwell.  The same article said Irina Krush was dating Leonard Di Caprio, and Korchnoi was dating Billie Piper.
