Yuck, Naka might win that game.

Not only do I want him to lose in general, but if he beats Fabi then it's almost guaranteed Nepo will win, which also isn't ideal.

I like Nepo, he's a very strong player and plays exciting chess, however I really don't want a repeat of last year.....

Neither does Carlsen tongue.png

I hope Nepo doesn’t win the candidates. A repeat would make the viewership likely go down and would not be very exciting or interesting.

Neither does Carlsen

It is kinda true as he said he probably won't play another wcc after beating Ian xD

MaetsNori

Hikaru is +3 over Fabiano, right now.

But there are still a lot of pieces on the board. A lot of ways for things to go wrong.

The first 5 games of Nepo - Carlsen were both exciting and interesting.
Even game 6 was exciting and interesting, but Nepo lost it because he got tired.
He could not recover mentally.
Carlsen should want to play another match against Nepo.
Nepo will gain rating from the present Candidates' so that may help Carlsen reach his 2900 goal.

MaetsNori

I think Carlsen is getting a touch of Morphy - starting to grow bored of chess, from having no serious rival.

The way the Naka Fabi game is going it looks like tomorrow's Fabi Nepo game could be the most important game of the tournament.  Nepo could be ahead by 1 point going into that game. Fabi will have white.

Yes, it appears Naka should win his game which would put Nepo one point ahead of the field. If this is the case for tomorrow Fabi will kinda be in a must win situation against Nepo tomorrow!

I can't see the idea behind Nakas 40. Be3 move. On d4 it was well placed, probably the best square for it.

Preparing Nf2-h3-g5

Hmm, so it's preparing to improve the knight.

I noticed Fabi briefly went back to #2 after Ding drew with Nepo. He'll drop back to #3 if Naka wins this.

Update:  Naka put the bishop back on d4, what're the odds?

It's move 61 and it's looking like Naka mightve messed this up.

MaetsNori

Hikaru got his revenge against Fabiano.

This tournament has been full of surprises so far.

Some members in the chat were saying that Ian has already won the tournament, now ... but I disagree. There are many outcomes that could happen from here on out (including Ian losing a game or two).

Even Alireza might have a surprise win or two up his sleeve, just to throw things into turmoil.

If Naka does well in this tournament,  even if he doesn't win, it will be good for his viewership numbers with his online thing he's got going.  I think it's funny that he's reached for the mouse twice in this tournament.

"Fabi has white against Nepo tomorrow. Monster game with huge implications."
++ Expect a draw. It suits both of them. Ask Rapport about avoiding a draw and losing.

Pulpofeira

I agree, but it isn't the same, Rapport tried to force things.

Lesson for Rapport and Firouzja: do not enter theoretical discussions with Nepo.
