The star that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.

(emphasis on the burns.... Surprised)

I dont nececeraly think that men are better chess player then women i mean you have to addmite that the Polgar sisters are 5 times better than a lot of FIDE chess players. And wath about Alexandra Kostiniuck ? or Hou yifan or Nathalia Pogonina ?

are you guys ? I am a boy but i addmit that men and women are about tied in chess.

How many women world champions has there been, and how many men world champions has there been?

Sounds like a furious 5 minutes.  Then out like a flash.

Mr. Burns is probably my favourite character of the 90s.

"What was I laughing at?  Oh, yes, that crippled Irishman!"

15 human beings in the last 127 years. All 15 have been men. The first woman to become a grandmaster was in 1991, only 22 years ago. Time is running out for y'allWink

The Simpson's have staying power.  Still Hilarious.

The old episodes are still hilarious, sure, but everything made since about 2002 has been rubbish.

Hi, TB! Where is that quote from?

zborg

You have a discerning eye, @TBoy.  It's all a blur to me.  Same with SpongeBob.  Laughing

theoreticalboy

The quote is from The Fall, The Classical, I think.

You don't need much of an eye to discern between Simpsons' eras.  It's pretty apparent the episodes became broader as the years progressed (think of all the foreign holiday episodes they started making; one obvious indicator of a general dearth of ideas.  Though the Japan one was fairly funny, with its epilectic seizure bots)

Are you kidding? While the Simpsons' decline I could conceive of falling unnoticed through the less stiff palate, the difference between a good early Spongebob episode and a later one is that which exists between a 2004 Beaujolais and Juicy Juice.

And man, did the return of Futurama bite it.

Are trying to get a rise out of the ladies again ?

ivandh

I wasn't aware that ladies were fans of Futurama season 5?

A fine question OP, and a good idea to do a piece of research.

I was wondering about perhaps conducting a twin study to prove this once and for all. How about if anyone has male identical twins, I could take one, raise it to watch football, feed it nails and force it to play chess from the age of 4 etc.

The other one could have a pink bedroom, some dolls and ummm I dont know nails painted every week instead.

I'll have to give more thought to this really, just an idea at the moment.

Maybe if anyone does have new born twins they can message me... and we can find out who will have the highest chess rating in 20 years time.

know some who would promise to study their ***'s off for the second option.

ps  wore me best George Sand suit yet still feel a little uneasy in here, giddy, but uneasy.

Congratulations for reviving an old thread that OmarCayenne commented on.

They've yet to make a season of Futurama I didn't like.

ivandh

You obviously haven't seen the new ones.

I think the most important question of all hasn't been asked yet, unless I missed it:

Why are some women better chess players than other women? Is it because they are genetically superior, or because their brains have better developed visuo-spatial networks? Perhaps they have higher levels of testosterone or estrogen or some other hormone? Or maybe they watched more cartoons as children that featured strongly geometric patterns?

What do all y'all intellectuals think?
