It's a matter of low chance, almost no one becomes a grandmaster and it's also uncommon to look way better than average.
Why are most GMs not good looking?
Nigel Shart probably sets the benchmark for goodlookingness among GMS. anyone better looking than him can be considered very good looking.
Was that typo intentional?? Poor Nigel.
Unarticulated response:
Well, think about it.
You dedicate your entire life (or most of it) to the pursuit of chess study / tutoring / competition. It's a fair assessment to say this is a non-materialistic pursuit. They don't do it for the money, although that must be nice for the top GMs, that's just a side-benefit of achieving that level. Non-materialistic people are also less obsessed with their looks and physical appearance, and even "fitting in" isn't high on their list of priorities. Add all this to the fact that a lot of those low on social status ladder choose to play chess (it's a bit of a nerdy pursuit - compare it to Magic, the Gathering, for example) These aren't the people who are trying to achieve higher social status, and if they are, they definitely chose the hardest path to get there!
If you were attractive why would you bother wasting your time at a chess board? The world has so much more to offer attractive people- money, power, status just by virtue of being attractive. Beautiful women in western society don't even have to work for their money- men are lining up to hand it to them.
Oh btw, none of the women in chess are attractive, except maybe 1 or 2 Russian girls- and who knows, maybe they did choose chess partly for the attention. or it's a cultural thing.
Sometimes its better to be a big fish in a small pond.
Kovalyov and Rapport are attractive. Giri is ugly as hell, sorry if that hurts anyone.
I guess they are ok, but what is wrong with this?

I mean, he's got a big nose, but you know what they say: the bigger the nose, the better your sense of smell is.

I guess but it does not take away from how good he is much...
He looks the smallest out of all of the top.
And he is...
He's also maybe the youngest?
Maybe Ding is younger?
Too lazy to spend the 10 seconds requires to google it on the chess 2700 site.

Yeah, similar to his looks, he's pretty childish.

He is the youngest in top hundred third to Ding and Duda
He's been married for about 3 years. Here's his blog btw for fanboy Scm.
Yeah I have already read every post

All of us are to an extent. Some of us just make an effort to be better understood. Not me though .

And for the young top GMs who aren't married, I get the impression their parents help take care of things.
Carlsen's Dad is/was his manager, and he reportedly has very good relationship with his parents.
Wesley So's adoptive parents have made chess news now and then. I see pictures of them hugging Wesley and so forth.
Naka is perhaps the exception. From comments he's made his relationship with his parents seems a bit icey.
