Why are women not as successful as men in chess?

Thanks for a nice reminder, how "nice" of a job is to wear mini skirts at job and smile to some stupid boss or a sexist client, just to earn money for the living? This would never be a work of a choice for any women, had we had better choices, but we live in a man-ruled-man-rules world, so we have to adapt to it. While for CEO positions women often lack self-confidence, not the skill.

Yes, chess is a war game. It is pshychological war between 2 opponents, while using chess set rules as a tool for this war.

I've read, Botvinnik highly emphasised the importance of crushing opponent's will at the chess game to his pupils. Emanuel Lasker was doing the same - playing against his opponent psychologically before everything else (studying his opponent's playstyle and psychology and then choosing inconvenient positions to play against them).

It doesn't really mean an aggression, but strong psychology is a requirement to play chess at a high level.

shame on you, for cheating girls that are obviously clearly newcommers to chess:) I would like to see that working on girls, who have trained a bit longer to actually know what they are doing on chess board:)

In fact, I am not a feminist. I only dislike you insulting women, but I guess you have already enough women in your life so you have enough women to insult in real life, why continue here in forums? Otherwise, you have picked the wrong words to show your intentions

The answer is more simple than all that and has nothing to do with character.  Historically women weren't taught chess.  It's just plain numbers.  Black people also aren't represented in chess, again, historically not taught (in America) or not in the culture (again, in America.)  If you argue that women and people of color have an innate difference in the way they think, that's just ridiculous.

   This kind of thread...about the millionth on the same topic, over the years...is rather pointless. It is an attempt to comprehend why chess seems to be of gender specific in nature.

   If x children were exposed to chess at an early age and trained properly, could they perform as well as y children?

   All I can say is that some children take to chess like a "duck to water". Others would rather eat raw sewage than play chess.

   Tell you what, all you armchair gender-interested people...have your own kids. Teach them chess (probably best to hire a coach because they would otherwise have a patzer teaching them). Come back in 10 or 20 years and "report in".

   I can give you my report. My kids all left home between 25 and 30 years ago. Not one of them (three daughters) has touched a chess piece since.

   Now, if you will all do your part in instilling chess in your own kids and report back as I have, then maybe we can have a worthwhile conversation. I am only taking a guess here, but my guess is that at least 90% of the kids will not take a long term interest in chess.

   Why such a guess? Look at the people all around us, men as well as women, who would rather go to a dentist than play chess. Eh? More chess for the rest of us.

   You are just a malcontent looking for a fight. The women in my life have been very well treated by me and they dearly love and respect me. Nor have I said a word in any of my posts demeaning women or their capabilities.

Pff, more insults:) and here you are claiming that you are not insulting anyone anywhere in your posts... read your previous posts and consider that if you don't see any insults there, it only shows that the particular type of thinking is so ingrained into your personality that you don't even see it when you are insulting women. Why should I even bother arguing about it here, merely countering a spam of biased claims now makes myself a target. Yes indeed I am not here for useless fights as I have better things to do.

My guess women don't have the same interest in chess, my girlfriend who very intelligent can probabily be a master but she hate chess and has no interest in chess. Woman tend to be more social and you are sitting quietly for hours playing chess; my personal observation, my girlfriend rather be doing things instead sitting and playing chess. She of course is the boss in a lot things we do.  I think is wise to keep your girlfriend or wife happy.
