what makes it so uneek is that its the only move in chess in which u give ur opponent the choice to make YOUR move ! therefore, all the rules state as such ?...i remain totally unconvinced and look at the current rule with fervent disdain & a subtle anger thats balanced w/a giggle at FIDE's hilarious modern-day logic collapse.
iows, coming to u since the 15th Century !!

the rules for it are semi-(if not fully)arbitrary and i guess we just hafta live w/ it.

The rule logically follows from the time when pawns didn't have the option of an initial two-step move and the transition to it. In the old days pawns only could move one square at a time and when the rule changed, as a method to speed up games, adding the option to capture in passing kept the game consistent with the older rules and prevented being able to forcefully lock pawns.
ohh !...we could talk about castling but thats another day. and ppl who think castling izza a good thing in chess ?...havent watched HN bongcloud himself to 3000 (aka clownpusher). showing us that castling can be not only unnecessary but can be outright dum in most games. AND a arbitrary rule.
but like i said...another thread.
Can't believe a 1600 rated player has posted this ridiculous question
u probly dont live in the city, right ?
I live in the Us Virgin Islands actually.
wudda liar !
Casting is intended to be speeding up this general process:
When that process would go through check, it would not be legal.
If En Passant din't exist white would be in a losing position here, but it does exist and it then actually puts the black king in checkmate lol
if u go back to my post #1 this so-called illegal move is the ONLY position in all a chess that assumes whites move - in advance !!
insanely stupid !

As per multiple other posts in the topic, there is no assumptions of anything. Black can't leave the king in check and since the pawn is not on c6, it is still in check. The end.
ok. white just played Qb5+
now...if i play 1...c5 then white has the option to play 2. pxp e.p. and the game continues.
By that "logic", Black should be able to just play 1. ... Kd7 (simply leaving the King in check) since if White replies with 2. Qc4 then Black is out of check and the game continues.
im just saying that e.p. is the ONLY move in chess where ur opponent has the final say in the outcome a YOUR move. thats all. ur move isnt a now & present one. itsa future-type move that ur opp decides how they control the interpretation of YOUR MOVE. now if u dont find that at least odd, and 4me just wrong, then im now gonna hold out any hope 4u fide suckup beauzeaus.
and plz go back in time & try to u/s exactly how e.p. came to be & see if u agree w/ its y-yr morph. iows if u can find specks a logic in s/t so arbitrary then plz explain w/out pride nor prejudice.
...and i thank u (very little).
Black has shown himself to be a master of sophistry, rather than chess.
LOL. Nice!
