What isn't a waste of time? What does it even mean to waste time?
Why Chess is a Waste of Time and Intelligence – Yes

Let’s not forget about other Grand Masters who couldn’t get their own lives in order.
That is correct on the Grand Master part, not the chess part.
"The light that burns twice as bright, only burns half as long." - Blade Runner.
To be a grand master is incredible stress.
Compare that to bodybuilding. Ronnie Coleman has all kinds of injuries.
That's the Grand Master part, not the chess part.
You can't lose a GM title in chess so there need be no stress at all in being a GM.

there's nothing wrong with chess, but you can apply a holier-than-thou argument to literally anything. I'm sure there's someone out there arguing that it's a "waste of time" to be a general practitioner, when you could save lives as a surgeon.

you're born to die everything inbetween can be said to be a waste of time this will be the case until someone invents time travel or a way to be immortal otherwise evertything will always be a waste a time
regardless of what you do there will always be someone who thinks what you do is a waste of time
you could count every blade of grass you find, many would agree this is a waste of time but if you yourself feel fulfilment then continue on your grass counting journey
a life lived by your own way is better then a life not lived

I think discussions like this are a waste of time (not much intelligence involved, so no need to worry about that).

i have to agree, but chess (and very much other things) can be boring, if you dont understand it. i have a friend who always gets bored playing with me just because he doesnt know how. this is just my experience though, we all vary in mindsets.

Chess is indeed waste of time. For everyone that is interested, here is link for good article:

Let us create a game that can be considered the "best game". Here are the criteria of this game: -A beginner must not take more than 15 minutes to learn the game in its entirety. -Ideally, the game should have as few tokens/pieces as possible. -The game should be challenging as well as rewarding. -It can be played by everyone, regardless of age, prior knowledge, or language. -Bonus: It is small enough to fit in an average sized pocket -Bonus: It can be played on the go.
i isolate a lot and play chess a lot..... I would have naps where i would keep catching myself replay games in my head as i am trying to sleep....It became an obsession for me after covid hit and everyone was trying to keep busy at home.....I would often worry about what it was doing to my brain and psychology. for me, i needed to win. more and more i just fealt that what was important was winning. At first i played because there was so much to learn, then it clearly became an obsession and perhaps a need for control.....some of the psychology behind it is concerning, i will try to leave it at that..... one of the crazy dreams i had was me as a rook running people off of sidewalks towards my house, kind of disturbing.....no other thing has invaded my head a deeply as this game has. except for maybe my love for zelda botw
Chess: - A structured game to see who can checkmate the king first and, at the same time, be able to focus on the entire board throughout the entire game.
