Why do people feel the need to make you wait?

As annoying as it can be, when you start a game you agree to give so much time to your opponent. They can use it however they like.

If you dont have the patience to make it through a game of chess, then try bullet.

I don't make my opponent wait, because the game will end the same either way. I usually respond to moves within 5 minutes of seeing them.
How long do you consider too long? How long I take depends on the complexity of the position, and whether I'm doing something else.

I told this annoying person a few days ago that I had to go, and offered him a draw, after taking a pawn and checking the clock. The move was obvious, but he just waited 15 minutes before he made his next move, just out of spite I believe. (My time was flexible enough)

Why not you have your time to do with whatever you like. Its not nice but its there time its not allocated to you!!
Its what it is. But it would never happen in chess club. Far too gentlemanly your name would be mud all the people glaring at you but online its easy to be a mongrel.. But just remember rolling stones said " time is on your side .. Yes it is"

I've also noticed that in blitz, sometimes people just leave when they see the writing on the wall. It could be revenge, it could be a bad sport, or perhaps in some cases it could be someone mad that they lost, but then just forgetting that there is a human being on the other side of the board--pure neglect.
Most of these comments don't even understand the question. Listen people, he's not asking why it takes you two hours to calculate five moves. He's asking why when people know for sure they're losing, they don't just resign and "make you wait to win" until their damn time runs out.
Anyway, for me, I think there are three reasons. One, some of them might think you're cheating and they're trying to give you a hard time for it, two, hoping for you to resign yourself out of boredom, three, some are just lifeless sour losers.
Best solution is to report them for stalling/quitting games.

After four years, you'd think this thread was past resuscitation. Poor tigerbaitIsu has been waiting all this time...

Srsly though, you should try playing daily... some people have 1000 games going and take the full 3 days on eeevvveerrryyy move. Fair enough. But I could pass away before the second round of the tournament starts. Lol.

You do know that many people have a daily life to get on with before they make their move. Some one who i know is a carer for their elderly parents, and he has an hour of "..me time.." every night and it is then they make their move. Chess clears that persons mind for that hour, and flicks a reset button

I am unwell, sometimes for quite a few days I am extremely medicated, 14 day games are played often by people like me. It definately has a place here.
