Because they're like heavier?
Why do people like weighted pieces?

Because, then one can say, that their 'moves' speak {as it were}; With some 'gravitus'.. Ie. 'weight'?!

Don't listen to their bullsh*t answers. It is simple. By making the pieces "bottom heavy" they will get knocked over less frequently in a time scramble which means fewer cases of having to adjust. Think of it like a sports car versus an suv. With a sports car, it's weight is down near the ground. An suv, like unweighted pieces, has a higher center of gravity and is more susceptible to tipping or rolling over. And as much as you might want to say baloney about making better use of your time, time scrambles will occur like it or not. Last night, in a game in 75 minutes with 15 second increment per move, we had a 107 move draw where the last 50 to 60 of them both of us were under a minute and working off the increment each move. Just imagine if we used those unweighted plastic pieces!

Thanks for the explanation ThrillerFan. Obviously none of us were smart enough to know that... Very helpful.

Weighted pieces have better stability , simple as that .
It depends if they're weighted on the top or the bottom....you poophead........

I feel there should be sand inside the pieces (we have alot here !) so if you hafta turn a castle upside down for a queen ?....it'll work too !
